I have a "75" fj40 with an aqualu tub that the PO installed. Besides the fact that it is a diamond plate tub, i think the transition from cowl to tub is relatively "seamless" . i keep mine parked as soon as they start salting the roads though ,i would rather the rest...

I like your idea for the insulated floor mats, especially the fact that they are removable. I was thinking about lining my floor with dynamat, I like your idea a lot better.

Have you noticed if your fuel gauge is operational when this happens? I have had a similar problem that is intermittent at best, I was reading a thread on here ( electrical problems 99% solved) in which the problem was traced to a defective ignition switch.
