Plenty of spark, plenty of fuel, no fire

I went to start her up today and she sputtered a bit and then I thought I heard a "poof" sound under the hood right around the coil. On the second try I again got a slight start then a "poof" from under the hood. It's a sound I've never heard in all of 7 years with the rig. Now, 4 hours...

    MAF add-a-leaf before and after

Thanks to your input, I went with a MAF long add-a-leaf in the rear of my '83 to fix the sagging HFS rear packs. I deleted the smallest spring to insure a smooth ride. Best $52 I've ever spent. Before: After: Took about 1.5 hours each side with hand tools. Oh, and yes I...

You can take this much off your engine and it will still work...

...which isn't to say it will work well at every temperature, altitude, etc. just that it will start, accelerate, and in a word--drive. After taking the pictures I drove her around the block just to make sure I wasn't misleading anyone.

Reverse control arms like reverse shackles?

Still imagining a rally/desert racing style springover front and rear on an fj60...on a control arm setup, like in a Dodge Ram, the 4 control arms (2 and 2) are behind the axle, I assume for protection. Just as a reverse shackle helps rolling over obstacles a la wheelbarrow, wouldn't...

Leaf spring in place of control arms?

Although a lot of builds on mud are crawl related, I want to set up my FJ60 for more of a prerunner style ride. The majority of the trails I like to wheel don't require lockers, gearing, or even crazy flex as much as they do good quality contact with the surface in real time. I'd like to...

50% SOA for a saggy rear?

My saggy rearend has been buggin me lately. The rig is still pretty capable offroad but I'm giving up a lot of flex given that I've only got about two inches of travel until I hit my shocks (3 or so to the bumpstops). After changing all the gear fluids today I snapped a before and after...

    2nd Barrel not opening!!!

After countless hours tuning, timing and fabricating makeshift superchargers, I finally have ascertained that my second barrel is not opening in any way shape or form. This is extremely exciting in that it explains a lot of my horsepower woes, but frustrating because I can't make the second...

    My timing is retarded (sorry)

I've read every post, manual, and even scoured TMZ to figure out my timing marks and what I'm reading still doesn't jive with what I'm feeling and smelling. Keep in mind that I've only been messing with timing for a month or so... My book learning is that when shooting through the window the...

    All Wipers, All the Time

My wipers will only go full blast! Nothing I do will change the timing or more importantly, turn them off. I pulled the fuse for the summer but it's winter in Oregon so I need to get them working right. Any thoughts?

    Foreign 60's

Does anyone know if there are 60 or 70 series cruisers still selling brand new anywhere in the world (Middle East, South America, etc.). If so, what does it take for a private buyer to import something like that?

    my homemade bumpers

I just finished putting this rig together. I couldn't find bumpers out there that fit my needs (or budget!) so with a little help from a fabricator friend of mine, I built these two bumpers.

    moaning power steering

I'm sure there's a post on this somewhere but: I just put in a new ps pump and the steering still moans through the steering column when I steer. It's the same moan I had before I changed my pump (which was evidently working fine), so before I go diving in deeper I thought I'd ask the...
