    Aussie '75 Ground-up rebuild

Thanks for checking in but I'm sad to say the 40 has been on the bench for a while. We are moving back to Adelaide so it's all been packed up and ready to go on a flatbed to it's new home as soon as we work out where that will be!

    Holley carb questions

Thanks for the reply, I guess that would be why mine (being RHD) was orginally mounted round the other way with the linkages on the inside.. Cheers,

    Holley carb questions

Hi all, I am the first to admit I know barely anything about carbs so bear with me. My 2F had a 2 barrel Holley fitted when I pulled it apart years ago and now that I've got around to putting it back together I have a few questions. Firstly, does it really matter which way the carb faces? It...

Are these shims Toyota approved :)

I dont think Toyota ever made 'food grade' shims. ;p I love finding these sorts of gems on older vehicles. Lliving in a regional community in the Aussie outback, I can appreciate the need for the odd bit of 'neccessity engineering'.

Dr Slug's 1983 BJ42 Build Thread - Yes I need a name for my truck

That bar should piss off the wankers at the stupid pedestrian safety council! Not sure how you get on up there in Brisvegas but I know a lot of guys in Adelaide are starting to get defects for bars like that. Truck is looking good!

Anyone else running EFS shocks?, need help!

Does anyone have EFS shocks on the rear of their pre 1980 40? I have ordered some and they have the wrong eye diameter and width so I can't get the nut on far enough to slide the cotter pin in without over tightening it. Also, the eye is bigger than the washer so in theory, it could slide right...

    Aussie '75 Ground-up rebuild

Been a while since I posted, have been in Malaysia on holidays. I checked the spring orientation, they are definetly round the right way, just a poorly designed lift spring I think. I am still trying to work out what is going on with these shocks. The eye's are too big. I have been going...

    Aussie 1984 refresh/mod down to chassis - 2F out 1UZ V8 in (Pics)

From what I have read, shot blasting can leave the surface quite smooth, almost polished which makes it harder for the paint to stick so it might need etching first for best results but it probably depends on the size of the shot. I'm only guessing here, I've never had anything shot blasted...

Dr Slug's 1983 BJ42 Build Thread - Yes I need a name for my truck

Not something that you'd expect to get flogged. I always have locking nuts on my spare but I never considered that someone might steal the whole carrier! Thats rough.

    Aussie '75 Ground-up rebuild

More suspension woes... Well, I bolted in the rear shocks only to find that they are the wrong ones. Looks like they sent me the correct length, but the large eye type from a later model. I went back and looked at the sales invoice and the correct part number is on the invoice and also...

    Aussie '75 Ground-up rebuild

I also noticed that when I put the front end back together, my spindles appear to be very short, The second hub nut only just has enough thread available to actually screw on. When I did the rebuild I replaced both spindles, put in a backing plate eliminator (mine were rusted to pieces)...

    Aussie '75 Ground-up rebuild

Suspended Well, I rang EFS and their response on the springs was that it would be ok once it is loaded up with some more weight and the springs flatten out. I can't see my truck ever having enough weight in it for that to work but for now I'll leave them in and see what happens. The fronts...

Some incredible fabrication skills shining through here. Very impressed, well done.

    Aussie '75 Ground-up rebuild

Holy crap-tastic springs Batman! I am in a really bad mood this morning. I'm not sure about the E, but I reckon I know what the FS in EFS stands for - F#cking SH1TE! This is the shackle angle on the rear after fitting the new EFS springs. It would appear they are WAY too short. I fit the...

    Aussie 1984 refresh/mod down to chassis - 2F out 1UZ V8 in (Pics)

I've seen some video's of this done on body panels etc. and it seems to work quite well given enough time. You'd need a lot of it to fill a frame sized pond that's for sure!. I'm only thinking out loud but if you have rust blistering under existing paint then the mollasses might not be able to...

    Aussie '75 Ground-up rebuild

Feels like Christmas... Just a quick update. All my new suspension finally arrived. I don't think much of the finish on the spring packs, they are going to need a bit more paint on them I think. The shackles aren't all that pretty either but they will have to do at least until after the...

    Aussie '75 Ground-up rebuild

Keen eyes you have there! It's a Fairey overdrive. From what I understand, these are a complete replacement rear housing for the transfer case with an extra cog in it. I can't find any info on it anywhere. If it breaks it could be fun to repair...

    Aussie '75 Ground-up rebuild

Thanks Alan. Appreciate your thoughts and I would have stuck with the original driveline had it not been for some pesky swallows who decided to make the exhaust ports on my 2F their new home at some stage over the last 10 years. the cylinder head is full up with mud and bird feathers and the...

    Aussie '75 Ground-up rebuild

I have done a few other bits and pieces while waiting for parts to arrive. I rebuilt the front brake calipers (will grab pics when the paint is dry) and spent last night rebuilding the knuckles. My new genuine knuckle studs and nuts arrived and I grabbed a bunch of stainless washers and set...

    Aussie '75 Ground-up rebuild

There were lots (and I mean lots) of holes drilled in the body tub of this thing presumably to mount all sorts of crap over the years so I started welding these up. No doubt, some of them are factory and I'll end up drilling them out again...:D The next surprise came when was researching...
