Thanks for the info. I'm staying away from the aftermarket axles. I've been leaning towards rebooting the stock axles. It's just a matter of time for projects. Thought it might be quicker to swap out the axles. Bought my FJ with 70k miles and I'm pretty sure the CV's are originals. Any...
Since lifting my 2007 FJ last year my inner boots started leaking. I did a quick fix last summer with some grease and new clamps. Just recently I noticed the boots have now blown out. It was recent but I'm just not sure when it happened. Not noticing any squeaking or clicking. Considering...
I just put in a Duralast Platinum. 810 CCA and a 3 year replacement warranty. I think it was 140 minutes of reserve power. 24F if I recall and it fit perfectly. My last was Napa decided to try AutoZone. Better warranty, if it makes any difference.
Anyone running 20s on their FJs? It's a daily driver not planning on much off-roading. Looking at 20x9 with 5.04' BS and +1mm offset. Shopping around 5" or more seems like common backspace for a 20x9 wheel. Hoping to keep the tires under the fenders with no rubbing. Not sure on tires yet...
Anyone running an aftermarket cold air intake has removed the entire assembly. It can't be that important. I did look up the part number and found it was discontinued.
Has anyone else removed the secondary air filter or tried to clean/replace? I guess I never paid attention before when I changed my air filter. This thing was filthy! I broke the plastic rivets trying to remove it. I will admit it sure runs better!
I was talking about the OM612 CRD possibly making 30+. Same engine they use in the Sprinter Van. Some specs have shown 30+ highway and the van weighs more. Using that motor is a much more complex and expensive swap.
It was 15 years ago in an FJ40. I just didn't like the results most likely a gearing issue maybe not the right V8. At the time I did not have the info and support like we have on this site.
Anyway you look at it a diesel engine is more efficient. I would guess the mileage with a 617 could be 20+??? It still will not win any races but could be very effective with the right gearing. I have read through many threads on cruiser owners trying to make more power with a 2F but no...
OM612
Anybody have any info on this motor?
OM612
154 hp @ 3800
243 Torque @ 1600
2.7 ltr 5 cylinder, common rail diesel
produced 1999-present looks like they used them in there sprinter/van
I did a little more research after posting this thread. Reading through some of the threads now. I just saw the 4x4 lab FJ40/Merc video it got me interested. My thoughts are simplicity and mileage. The power numbers are comparable to the Toyota's. A little more boost and fuel pressure...
Let's revive this thread just because I am interested. I saw the video from 4x4 labs does anyone have any other info? I compared the Torque & HP numbers vs RPM I don't think it is a bad swap. Is anyone still working on this project?
Just wondering has anyone done a Mercedes Diesel engine swap??? Anybody have any info?? I see 4x4 Labs is making an adapter kit for the Mercedes OM617.
Yes I know, why would anyone run a Mercedes Diesel instead of a Toyota Diesel......Just looking for info.
