Brought this up a couple of years ago. Nuclearlemon said she thought it was jute and didn't contain asbestos. Can't remember who, and I'm too lazy to search, but i think someone even torched their truck after sparks from a grinder ignited the insulation. Everyone seemed pretty confident that...
Interesting looking LV. Love the ambi doors. As far as I know the ambulance doors weren't available here in the US. They look stock and if not, it appears to be a good job. He says it was brought down from the US to CR but doesn't specify if it's an original US import.
I definitely prefer...
I used blue painters tape and covered the whole lettered section. Then I used an exacto knife and carefully cut out the letters. A couple of light coats with a black spray paint and you're done. Crisp, professional looking and pretty easy to do.
Thanks for all the parts, Mike! Got the second package today....
Almost bought a biz in and moved to Idyllwild. Incredible part of the country......I think Hemet would have been the closest big town. We had a lot of fun there, but the deal fell through.
Hey Scrap, spacers were mainly for rubbing, but also aesthetics b/c the tires looked too tucked in.
I assume you'd need them enlarged slighty, too, but the FJ55 has Warn hubs and your 60 axles are Aisin. Not sure what the difference in diameter is.
IsuzuGeek, these wheels would be great...
Checked this morning and 4.5" is right on.
Also, I had to have the front center holes enlarged to fit over hubs on the FJ55. Don't know how pertinent that is to those considering this wheel, but worth keeping in mind.
I ran 1" spacers with these wheels without any issues. Loved the...
I used to run the 16" Tacoma spare steelies on my FJ55 using spacers. Look the same as the one you have pictured but black. Never had any problems on road or off. Seemed plenty strong to me, although I don't know for sure whether or not they are a lesser wheel b/c they are a spare.
Hope this...
No offense taken. I understand what you're saying. I still think a panel with a porous primer holding moisture against the metal is not inhibiting rust but accelerating it. I've seen it happen...
The scenario you proposed with the pieces of steel, in my opinion, would not necessarily end...
Chemistry definition of Inhibit: to STOP or DECREASE the progression rate of a chemical reaction.
A porous primer does absolutely nothing to inhibit rust, it readily allows moisture penetration, allowing the metal under the primer to corrode unimpeded. In addition, it can accelerate...
Going to have to disagree with you there on the basis of slightly misleading.....;)
A primer's main purpose is in preparing the substrate for paint.
Anti-corrosive and sealing primers such as the 2K epoxy mentioned above offer great protection in bare metal applications.
Primers...
Zero Rust is a rust inhibiting primer, no need to prime before painting. Thickness of aggregate coats is important for effectiveness. I've never rolled or brushed it, but have sprayed it on several projects including a frame, bare metal interior floor pans and numerous smaller parts. Works...
I think she's right that it's jute, but just thought maybe they could have added asbestos fiber for its fire resistance. Apparently it was added to many products back then.
Since your test burned well and Gonzo's inferno suggests it's not fireproof, I guess that's positive news. I always...
Good advice, unfortunately, it was after removing much of the large pieces and creating a ton of airborne fibers that it being a problem even crossed my mind. Will wet it down when working on remainder.
Thanks.
