I'm in the earlier stages of converting my 79 -40 to a 5.3 Vortec w/4L6E Tranny/Toy T-case. So far the hardest thing has been getting the new body tub built (it has been a beeotch) and am getting ready to weld in the motor mounts. The fun stuff is just getting ready to start. Good Luck
The build up on my 79 is going pretty good and I've got the 5.3 Vortec and 4L60E Transmission ready to go. My original gas tank is in reusable condition and I bought the GM fuel pump and accessories, but I am concerned about adapting it to the Toyota tank (fuel pickup questions and mounting the...

wouldn't hesitate to powder coat the frame
We just finished putting zinc rich primer powder coating on my 79 frame and will finish it off with matte black powder coat after working all the bugs out of my body fitting and drive train setup. Another advantage of powder coating your frame is if...
Auto Trans Vortec Combo
Sounds like we're all in the same part of a build as far as engine /trans combos are concerned. We are welding up my new pacol body for my '79 and getting ready for engine and transmission. I wanted to go NV4500 but after driving my wife and business partner crazy with...
Nothing is wrong with the 2f as far as I know other than 30 years old and X79,000 miles. I don't think it would make sense to do a frame off nut and bolt and a new body without freshening the engine. Also, I will doing the motor/ tranny installation. I guess the reason that I am looking to do a...
By the time I buy the 2f rebuild kit, carb rebuild, machining, rebuild labor and new radiator, it will be about the same cost as a swap including adapters. I'm sure I've left something out though. Thanks for the thoughts everone.
My frame off is coming to the point where it's time to decide what to do with my cruiser engine tranny needs. Here's where it stands. Starting weld up of new Pacoline body (to be powder coated), and just put 1st zinc primer powder coating on frame. I plan on using this as a casual driver on...
Looking to buy BJ/HJ 60. Would prefer body in decent condition, 5 speed and ac. Might possibly consider FJ 60 in good shape with bad motor if we can round up a swapper diesel drivetrain. Located in KY but can travel. Thanks, email has changed to ka1328@windstream.net .
Hope I'm not out of line putting Jeep stuff on mud but here goes. Got a set of new (still have plastic wrapper) black denim upper half canvas doors for a Jeep YJ Wrangler (87-95) Bestop brand. They are $400 from Quadratec but don't need and will take $300.
May include shipping to lower 48.
I was wondering if FJ40s in 1979 had velour w vinyl as a seat option. Mine has it on the seats and even the jump seats but they need recovering and I haven't seen any repros offered. I think they would definitely be more comfortable but am trying to stay close to original. Any ideas or opinions?
