whats up fellas!
Taking a few days off, writing from my inlaws at Hilton Head in SC. Whats new! lol guess I can read back through the threads and find out.
Readjusted my valves. 50 more horsepower! 30 MPG! For real it seams to be running better, like enough that I think maybe I fixed a vacuum leak I didn't quite know I had in the process. They seemed all a bit tight, across the board. Prev adjust was cold, when I put the head back on.
I also have the bottom one, with the top one plugged. Top is where I ended up putting the mechanical temp gauge, so I don't have a dead needle on the dash.
lots of extremes on ebay today, dont forget your grain of salt!

UPDATE:
Short-short version: I had previously been running 180deg. thermostat, I am now running 190deg. thermostat (part no. 90916-03052.)
I have confirmed with my new, mechanical gauge plugged in to the thermostat housing where once was a temp sensor for I guess smog stuff that was in my...
I drove to the gas station! And all around town, through the stop-signey part; temp holding steady at "half." I will try to get a real gauge this week.
Its starting easier, idle may be a bit low? The vaccum lines are in good shape but today i replace a few of the rubber caps for the delete...
I'm out again. Got my fuel pump relay, running fine now, but the brakes are no go. At this point Im pretty sure its the master cylinder. For the best I guess, will give me a chance to get the 60 finished up and going.
... you mean a vacuum leak for the hard start? Once it was running i timed it to the BB it seems to run well. I have not however had it under any real load yet. There may well be a vacuum issue, it was desmogged by the po, I set all my vacuum lines by this diagram:
EDIT: one thing different I...
I have been cleared for Saturday! And the 4Runner isn't starting! HAHAHAHAHAHA! I believe I've traced it to the relay for my aftermarket fuel pump, which I am about to try to go get locally. Then there is only a small(?) brake issue then I should be good to go. Sounds too much like the 60, I...
Tried the hill trick, may have gotten some air out. Had to add a bit of coolant (pint??) It leveled out at "half" on the temp gauge and stayed there:
Think I'll try one of those laser deals to see what it really is.
Was hard starting again, turned the distributor fully clockwise...
It runs! Running warm though. Argh.
The blow-hole technique on number 1 confirmed the timing. took a few tries but then fired. As for the temp, got as high as 3/4 on the gauge before I shut it down. I need to do something about that, find out what temp it is really. new thermostat, new water...
Hm I think I can bump it like you say with how I have it set now to try and confirm. I jumpered the starter when I did the compression check so I could control it from under the hood. I should be able to do the same with my thumb over the hole. With the dist. still in place make sure it points...
Well, it doesn't start.
Had spark to dist. and to plugs, fuel in the bowl... turns over but thats all. I switched the wires opposite in case it was 180deg out. Nothing. Managed to find TDC without removing the alternator again, and re-removed the dist. again. If this is correct, I was about...

EDIT: I should say one of them is a 55.
my kingdom for an ultrasonic cleaner
Sloooooowly making progress.
I have come down to Saturdays only, but another week I should be able to add on to that. This is good because I would need to look at the brakes on the 4Runner if I were going to go on the New Year's Run (Im still less than 50%...
