I am half done on my 40 axle rebuild, and I did not have the studs to line up the knuckle/dust cover/seal. I put a swipe of grease on the parts that would go next to a paper gasket, and stuck the gasket to it. That cut my number of parts to assemble down to 3. Then I put a bolt in the seal...
ok well I'm all confuzled then. I was thinking I had to drill out the mounting holes and needed a spacer to center the 420 into the 3spd bellhousing. Do I still neeed the throwout bearing "shim"?

YEARS ago I seem to recall speaking to several people about the option to use an advance adaptor type bellhousing on a 1f to sm420 mate up. Am I just remembering a dream, or do these exist? I'm not talking about using my 3speed bellhousing and drilling it.

I'm looking to put a toyota pickup steering column in my 73 FJ40 in a power steering conversion. I understand the early column will fit ok. Do the early and later columns match up? I have some one offering me a 84-88 column but I dont know if it will fit. Thanks for your help.
Dave
I'm doing the toybox power steering conversion, I think the 75 and up would work. Need the one thats not integral to the box, and has the "rag" joint.
Dave
Need a hitch for a fj40. Any type will do, as long as it will bolt to the origional 4 holes. Perfer the receiver type though. Closer to Vacaville, Ca the better.
Thanks
Dave
Oh I missed something there. The highest safe water line with a regulated supply of 5 PSI is 11.5 feet from the bottom of the trap. I kinda think water in the diff would be the least of your worries at that point.
