A strange combination of failures just hit my 1997 LX 450. The radio (stock) stopped turning on, the side mirror adjusters stopped working - both driver and passenger, and the HVAC doesn't function although lights on some of the buttons are lit if depressed. Other switches and lights on the dash...
Took a corner a bit sharp the other day and all of the power suddenly went out on the components in the center of the dash. I'm not getting anything to the stereo, the AC/heat (although the switch turning on the fan in the back of the truck works), antenna, cig lighter socket. The green light...
Thanks for the advice. Dark outside now so I'll follow up next weekend. I forgot to pull the vacuum hoses off the distributor advance before checking :o so that may have accounted for the missing marks.
Thanks again.
Now checking th timing and I don't see any timing marks on the fly wheel (this grainy video on YouTube shows what I'm seeing).
Can anyone offer any guidance?
Yes, as far as I know, it's the US spec distributor. The manual has instructions for adjusting US and for Other. Does the air gap not make any difference then?
Also, if the dwell angle is 48˚ is it going to affect the timing, or should I just move on and assume the dwell is set OK?
Thanks for...
I'm doing the timing on my 87 fj60. I put a dwell/tach on it and the Dwell angle is 48˚. According to the shop manual, it should be 42˚. To change it, I'm adjusting the rubbing block air gap in the distributor. I've set it a couple of times, at .2mm and .4mm (both ends of the range, according to...
I also have the same year and color scheme and the front seats look like they've been replaced, or recovered, like coolotisdog said. Everything else looks identical.
Ha ha ha ... thanks Joe_e. Great suggestion. Made me laugh too. Love the practical approach. I had thought about using the sawzall but wasn't sure whether it would damage anything. I'll give it a try during the week.
And, yeah, I tried the pipe wrench, but it wouldn't hold.
I'm replacing the shocks - standard OEM, nothing special - but I can't get the old ones off on the front. The nut on the very top of the shock is frozen. I've been spraying it with de-freezing stuff for a couple of days but now I can't get a purchase in the flat piece on the top of the shock to...
Great choices. That kennel flooring looks good, and isn't too expensive either.
I had thought about steel diamond plate, but figured it would be too freakin' heavy. Hadn't considered aluminum diamond plate. I'd probably need 1/8" thick sheets, which at just under 2lbs sqft, would make it...
I found a nice homemade roof rack on CL a couple of weeks ago. Came off another FJ60. I scrubbed all the rust off and repainted it and now it looks quite respectable. (see pic)
When I got it, the rack had a particle board bed, which I removed. Just wondering what the options might be for a...
