more money thrown away - now what? P0401

My P0401 went away once I replaced the VSV underneath the intake manifold. Seems as though the heat gets to it there. Been fixed for well over a year and about 15,000 miles.

I have always liked this rig and its mods. Your website is way cool too.

    First Mods on their way...

My '97 had the same EGR code and it turned out to be the VSV (Vacum Solenoid Valve?) that is below the intake manifold. A PITA to get to but not so bad with info from MUD. From what I have learned, the EGR valve is rarely the issue and is quite pricey to boot. Got a manual? If not, I highly...

Attempted Car Jacking..... Gunna need some parts....

Glad you are OK and I believe you took the appropriate actions. Especially sounding those horns of yours. I've seen the vids and they are impressive to say the least. I wouldn't be surprised if the perps experienced hearing damage after this attempted car jacking. And possibly crap filled...

    Cruise Control Back Online

Cool! This is good to know. About 2 years ago, I engaged cruise and it didn't take and the cruise light started flashing. I tried several times that night to get it to work but no luck. Next day and ever since it has worked flawlessly. I'll keep this sensor in mind when it happens again...

    Spark Plug blowout

I had the same thing happen on my Ford F150 Lightning. I had it repaired at the dealer per the TSB that applied. I remember it being important to use a thread repair system that is made from aluminum and not steel due to the difference in heat transfer and expansion aluminum versus steel...

The anti-freeze inside the container is almost empty, why?

Check the level in the reservoir when the engine is hot. Should be nearer to the top line than the bottom line. When cold, should be nearer to the bottom line than the top line. As long as the level is between the two lines at the engine temperature extremes, you're OK. If those levels...

Dash lights flash with turn signal, brakes, windows, etc....

Grounding issue? I've run into similar situations in the past with cars and motorcycles, and it always seems to be a bad ground. I would inspect and clean all connections to ground, starting with the battery to engine block connection. After that, check the turn signals and their wiring at...

    Rear Sliding Window Leak

I had a leak at the DS rear slider and I gobbed silicone on the retainers from the inside. This fixed it. This is a common issue with these vehicles and is well documented on this forum.

    O2 Sensor Debug...

Funny thing. My LX450 sat a good part of the summer because of a combination of an EGR code, an exhaust leak on the front O2 sensor, and rusted hangers on the muffler section. I fixed all with parts from CDAN and passed inspection about 3 weeks ago. Now, on the way home from work, another...

    EGR WTF?

I recently had the same thing and it turned out to be the vsv. It is located underneath the intake manifold and can be a bear to get at. Not too bad with the resources available here. Do a search, there is a lot of information about how to go about fixing this. -jim

Good muffler shop in the STL/STC area?

Yea, tell me about it! My wife said something very similar. I'm following the HDJ 3" exhaust thread in the 80 Tech forum. It looks interesting and the price certainly is better but will obviously require fab skills and equipment that I don't have. That is why I asked about a good...

Good muffler shop in the STL/STC area?

Thanks for the reply! I went to Dobb's near work for a state inspection. As with my previous experience with them 15 years ago, they lied again. I was told that the CAT had a hole in it and two hangers were broken. Two hangers were broken/rusted but there is no hole in the CAT. The front O2...

Good muffler shop in the STL/STC area?

Hope you all had a great Memorial Day weekend. I drive a 1997 LX450. Does anyone know of a good exhaust shop in the St. Louis/St. Charles area? Preferably one that will do a custom system in stainless. It is either a custom exhaust or I will replace with OEM. I am very big on reliability...

    Introduce yourself...

Lurker with a '97 LX450 Hello all, I have owned an unlocked '97 LX450 for 2 years now and 30,000 miles. Mileage now is 148,000. It has been a good reliable vehicle. I have baselined it, installed new brakes and recently fought the infamous P0401. I have plans to make it an expedition type...
