Grinding when shifting into 4L or 4H when in Neutral vs Park

Thank you. My ‘98 didn’t have a rear locker, and I never remember the light grinding between low and high. But it was years ago. Neither with the ‘03 I also had.

Grinding when shifting into 4L or 4H when in Neutral vs Park

is this normal.... But, I am still on my search for the perfect 100 for me (and I now know, probably not), but I found a Southern California '98 with 250K miles with zero rust, factory rear locker (more of that in a second), clean interior, all electronics work, body is straight - but driver...

Remote Inspection Help - '99 Gulf Coast Imperial Jade Mica with light rust?

The current owner says that he has kept it in the garage, but there is no way of knowing what the first two owners did. I only have the pictures to go by at this point, since it requires a short flight to see it. My issue (and not at all for others) is the Gulf Coast flares and pinstripes. If I...

Remote Inspection Help - '99 Gulf Coast Imperial Jade Mica with light rust?

Thanks. I will delete the running board on any LC I get. Yours looks great with the flares and no boards (Very 80 series - in the best possible way). But I am tossing it around.

Looks great. The flares look good on white!

Remote Inspection Help - '99 Gulf Coast Imperial Jade Mica with light rust?

It's weird, but I am most worried about the flares. I pretty much have to buy the LC and try to remove them to see what's going on. If it's a mess (and likely after 24 years), then I really won't get the look I am going for.

Remote Inspection Help - '99 Gulf Coast Imperial Jade Mica with light rust?

Why did my post get moved? I am not selling this vehicle, but looking for advice about its wear and suitability for a potential purchase, and advice about how to, and if I should delete the Gulf State fenders?

Remote Inspection Help - '99 Gulf Coast Imperial Jade Mica with light rust?

Yes. Part of it is that he just put 5 new BFG KOs on it (which reflects about $2K ih his pricing). Which, I mostly don't have a problem with, other than he did 275s on it and I would have done 285s. I'd rather have old tires that I cold replace, but the timing belt/water pump/radiator done.

Oh and here is a picture of the 99 LC and the engine bay associated with the above post.

Remote Inspection Help - '99 Gulf Coast Imperial Jade Mica with light rust?

My search for the right '98 - '01 pre-Toyota Nav system continues... I like Atlantis Blue, Imperial Jade Mica, River Rock Green Mica, and White (with Grey interior preferred). So this is a contender. This has 182 miles, Gulf Coast fenders/pin-stripping, and Gold emblems, and the owner is asking...

100 Series Front Diff Failure - Random Chat

I’ve pretty much come to that conclusion. If I get a 2000+, then I’ll just add air and a locker if my wheeling grows in that direction. Obviously it will take some fateful trip that will make me wish I had it sooner.

No Service Records = Red Flag?

I think, "I'd buy that." If it was just the bumpers, and even minor fender stuff, I think it is an OCD owner who is embarrassed about that type of damage when driving up to the restaurant valet. I just want a blank slate, a preferred color combo, no nav, and a semblance of records. So you may...

100 Series Front Diff Failure - Random Chat

Yup. I am beginning to think any pre or non factory navigation equipped LCs will do for me and my use plans. I can always add an air locker if desired, or circumstances/breakage demand.

No Service Records = Red Flag?

I think you’re correct on all points, especially for me. I’ll never intentionally boulder the rig, or go on roads that require spotters. It’ll be for accessing remote sites safely, getting me through a tough spot, some mud, and for now, rarely snow or ice. Realistically a Subaru meets most these...

100 Series Front Diff Failure - Random Chat

I'll never say never, but I really like the size of the 100 series (and 80s too) over the 200 series and 570 LXs. I just feel like I am wearing them, verse being in them.

100 Series Front Diff Failure - Random Chat

Much appreciated. I had an '03 and a '98, and preferred the '98 simplicity (No screen or nav system - that failed in my '03). I may just limit my search to '00 and part of '01 (it seems they transitioned to the nav screen around then) to get ATRAC and the 4 pin front diff. Otherwise I'll...

100 Series Front Diff Failure - Random Chat

I asked this in another thread, but seems more appropriate here: What’s better? ATRAC with the improved 4 pinion front diff year 2000 and beyond, and add air-lockers if needed? Or is the stock ('98-'99) rear locker good enough and change the 2 pin to 4 later? (Seams valid either way). Also, I...

No Service Records = Red Flag?

I don't know. I have every record for my '98 and '03 still, and I don't have either truck any more. I kind of think the opposite of where you are coming from. These were/are Toyota's most expensive vehicle ever produced, and so figure most people at that price point had them dealer serviced, at...

No Service Records = Red Flag?

I buried this question within another question in another post, but it might get more eyeballs on its own. What’s better? ATRAC with the improved 4 pinion front diff year 2000 and beyond, and add air-lockers if needed? Or are the stock lockers good enough and change the 2 pin to 4 later? (Seams...
