Thanks for the replies. Did some more checking and the fuel pump was the culprit. Locked up! When I pulled it, the screen mesh, which I had replaced, had come loose. Obviously, I didn’t do a good job of replacing it. Likely knocked it loose when putting the fuel pump into the tank.
I replaced my fuel pump a couple years ago. Rig has been driven very little. Anyway, went to start it and it wouldn’t start. Went through some diagnostics and got to the paper clip Fp to +B jumper in the diagnostic port. Couldn’t hear the fuel pump. Went to pull the paperclip and the dang thing...
Agreed. In most cases that I have seen with any engine, it's usually the rings. It's hard to get a ton of oil past the valve stems. It's just too small of an area even if the seals are completely gone. Rings on the other hand, have a huge potential surface area for oil to get past. I'm not...
I don't think Ford had any more issues with them than Chevy or Dodge did with their respective engines.
The spark plugs have been known to launch. I spit 2 of them out of my Lightning. In my new Lightning though, I'm running over 20 lbs of boost and haven't had a problem. I think part of the...
I put in 3 different off-brand u-joints in mine before I bit the bullet and bought Toyota u-joints and took it to the driveshaft place. Interestingly, without ever having damaged my driveshaft, it was out of balance. Once I got it professionally balanced and the new OEM u-joints in, it was...
I've mixed and matched R12, Freeze 12 and straight 134. If you charge it right, they will all blow cold air in a Cruiser. My cruiser right now has straight 134 in it and it will blow 36 degree air.
I know most people prefer Denso's, but I couldn't pass up the price on these Bosch units. These are the ones with the OE plug, so it should plug right in. Anway, got both with 2 day shipping for $117, total price. I have a Prime account, but standard shipping would still be free. Anyway, I just...
I started putting Freeze 12 and then straight 134a in my 62 a while back. I did replace a leaky O-ring along the way. Still though, never changed the oil, never pulled a vacuum on it, nothing. It puts out a ton of 36 degree air. If your system has been gone through like you say, it should be...
I don't want to sound defensive, but as for the points Mark made.
It is true that for some people the plug may leak a small amount without dislodging. My solution will not prevent or stop this.
As for the "if it does dislodge as well, it will leak a LOT as it shifts out of the bore and into...
It is bent into, basically, a Z shape. The one leg of the Z is clamped under the bolt. It is held in just by the friction of the clamping force. The other end of the Z just holds the factory aluminum plug in place. I suppose you could put some JB weld on the leg of the Z that faces the aluminum...
I only revived this old thread because I found quite a few more of the titanium strips in my garage. Anyone else who wants one, PM me and let me know. I'll send you one, ASAP.
BTW, anyone who got one earlier have any feedback on how its working? Mine seems to be working great.
Very nice!!! I just did the bronze bushings and then stopped there. That was all well before I discovered this site and had no reason document what I was doing. I appreciate the props above, but you went above and beyond!!!
BTW, what would you think of drilling out the handle just on one side...
