That $21K estimate is high. You can get a half-cut for $8-10K, which has all of the parts that add up to be so much for the swap priced on the above link. So, expect to pay $8-10K for the engine and parts, and up to $5K for installation.
I am looking at doing the same thing for the same...
The front door seals (68141-60010 for RH and 68151-60010 for LH) are $58.21 from http://www.1sttoyotaparts.com/. I just ordered them for both front doors, and will be putting them in soon to resolve the same problem.
Is that an ARB bull bar for an 80 series? If so, what are those circular holes going through the bumper? Did they add locations for fog lights in a more recent version of the bumper?
You can get just the mirror. I am about to order one becuase one of the plastic screws on the back of mine is stripped and it won't adjust up and down. So, I believe when you order the mirror you get the glass with the plastic adjsutment screws on the back. Here is the part numbers and price...
Has anyone installed these? I just saw several of them listed on ebay and was hoping to see a picture of them installed and to hear if they compar at all to the OME headlights on the 80s, which I think are above average already (especially the brights).
TX,
For domestically available parts (parts that came on North American 80s), use this: https://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/index.cfm?siteid=213804
For foreign parts (parts available only on European/Japanese/Australian 80s), I have found many price listings here...
Mot,
Good to know. I may be calling on you for a sable one for a '94. Do you run a web site? How do I contact you for parts? Also, that price is the one quoted on the EPC, so I doubt I could actually get it for that price.
Since you have a '94, you will need a different handle than Mot used. The one for the 90-'94 models is different than the one for the '95-'96 models and does not flush mount becuase of the shape of the dash. The one you want actually want is angled a little at the inside (towards center of...
So, you bought a LHD harness that was wired for ABS and the 1HD-T? I have yet to see this combo and thought that ABS was only introduced on diesel 80s in '95/'96 with the 1HD-FT engine. I have looked at the Electronic Parts Catalog, and the '95/'96 HDJ80s use the same ABS ECU as the FZJ80s...
Extreme,
Don't sweat it. I am sorry if my response came accross as angry or condescending. I'll have to work on that. I hope it cleared things up though. It is doubly confusing becuase Canada has a 15 year import rule and they don't seem to have as strict (or any) EPA requirements that...
Extreme,
Although you may be able to buy an HDJ80 (Japanese domestic 80) and import it, you cannot title it in the US without paying an importer to perform some major modifications to it in order to get it within US specifications. For vehicles under 25 years old, you can't even get it off the...
Maverick,
Thanks for the good info and the heads up. You probably saved me some money. (Speaking of money, I am guessing Jenny Cruiser must be bidding on the item on ebay due to her less-than-friendly message. I hope she will be comforted to know that no one has bid on the item since I did...
Man, you guys are brutal. Of course I meant "set" of tires, not "pair." Anyway, I plan on getting the OME 2.5" lift kit from Slee. I will look into getting some 100 series pads when I do so.
Thanks for the reassurances. I am the original owner of my 80, so I know that it has been taken care of. And, I do drive like and grandma, which helps even more.
Also, I think I mistakenly quoted mileage at 40K for my breaks, 20K sounds more accurate. I am getting 40K on each pair of tires...
I just saw this switch on ebay for an automatic antenna dash switch (see pic). Apparently it is from a '90 HD 80. Does anyone have any experience with this switch, and is a '94 FZJ80 wired to accept it? I'd love to add it to my rig if so.
I have 161K. But, I guess my main question is what should I do as preventative maintenance? Until joining 'Mud I thought I could just get burried in the thing. I was pretty much hoping for a list of the typical problems I should expect. Reading this forum has made me feel blessed. No real...
I don't know if this helps, but the picture is of a 100 series. I think it is just mislabeled. The last 80 should have been produced in '97. For some reason, however, the weels on it are from an 80. But, that is about it.
I have a '94 FZJ80 and have never had a single "serious" problem beyond replacing brakes every 40K miles. I have never seen the check engine light and beyond changing the brakes every 40K, I have really only had to have the seals in my front axel changed.
I am new to 'Mud, and I was never...
