Another question:
My FJ40 came with a 2nd set of rear curved glass, but they are noticeably smaller than what I pulled out of my hard top side panels. Are these smaller curved windows not Toyota? Or do they go on a different year or model of hard top?
Any help is appreciated👍🏼
Cleaned all the old over spray from the rear curved glass windows. Also cleaned the seals and used some silicone spray to help soften them and lubricate them. Should be ready fo reinstallation once the rear side panels are painted. Exciting!
Should be painting the side panels next weekend if...
So I'm borrowing shop space over the weekends to do my larger painting in. The shop is set up with an industrial 120 gallon NAPA brand air compressor. Very nice and actually surprisingly quiet too.
When I've painted in my garage I've used a combination of smaller compressors. Basically three...
Unless it was leaking from the oil galley plug I'd assume you'll be fine. After replacing mine I'm guessing it was probably unnecessary. But for a $5 plug I'm glad I went ahead and did it while I was there.
Let us know how it turns out for you and if any leaks show up.
More paint this weekend. Got a few runs in the paint that'll need to be sanded out and resprayed but overall it was a good day. Still learning how to use my HVLP gun.
Prepping a lot of smaller bits and pieces for paint.
Installed a trailer wiring plug. It's not super visible and is easily removed with no permanent modification to the frame. I'll be wiring in a converter for this as well to convert between truck signals and trailer signals.
Roller the chassis outside to give me room to work on the rest of the body panels.
The drivers side rear side panel has suffered some damage in the past and has some filler and rust that will need to be addressed. Ill probably leave the existing body filler in place since it's in good...
Your 6 months is up @Troy Pusateri
Time to hand this 40 off to someone else to finish up. I volunteer as tribute🤣
Seriously, cool thread and good going so far. I'm about 2 years into my own restoration/build.
My thread:
New Alaska FJ40 Intro Thread
Installed a new throw out bearing on the clutch fork hub.
Got a couple more inches of snow. Frustrating when I'm trying to prep for paint.
Luckily I was able to use a heated shop over the past weekend to finish hand sanding the body, seam sealing and prepping for paint.
Reinstalled the...
If you can find a screw/bolt extractor that's big enough to fit, that would be an almost guaranteed easy removal process.
One of those ones that's spiralled and get smaller towards the end.
Not sure they sell them large enough, but if so hammer it in there and twist it out. 👌🏼
Good luck.
While you are in there you may think about throwing in some heated seats pads. I did it with my front sheet restoration and it's a nice upgrade. I live in Alaska however so it's cold for much of the year.
Apart from that I'm not seeing anything that you are missing besides the covers, foam...
Got a set of body mounts from SOR.
I'm confused by the thicker mounting rubber and the seemingly "extra" hardware and the thin rubber squares bottom right of the main photo.
Anybody know where these go?
New cam plug, oil galley plug and pilot bearing from Spector Off Road installed.
Cleaned up the steering box.
Cleaned out the frame rails as much as possible with a 4' homemade wire wheel on a drill that I could insert into the frame and knock all the dirt and surface rust off. After blowing...
