Do I need an ignitor with a 78 dizzy??

I plan on dropping a 76 2F into my 67 FJ40 and plan on using a 78 carburetor and 78 distributor on the 2F. Do I need the ignitor as well? If so, would pulling part of the wiring harness from the 76 and splicing it into the 67 be the way to go? Thanks, Steve

Some advice on swapping a 76 drive train into my 67 FJ40

I am going to swap a 76 drive train into my 67 FJ40. The plan is to install the 2F, transmission, transfer case, axles and drive shafts. Currently the 2F lacks a carburetor and distributor but I can pick up a 78 carburetor. From what I have read here it sounds like I will need to replace...

    Hoosier Cruiser Tech Day Suggestions

While it appears that this club barely exists I had a great idea for a tech day. You all come over to my place in Fishers - bring your spare parts and tools and we can swap the drive train (engine, tranny, axles, etc.) from my 76 FJ40 into the 67 FJ40. Bring a plasma torch and welders and if...

    Suggestions Please

I am looking for a little advice on how to resolve a problem I am having getting a carburetor I bought of a Mud member far too long ago. First he said it would go out as soon as he got payment. Then after several attempts to reach him he finally replied saying he thought he had mailed it but...

    Carb Question

I am looking at either a 77 or an 81 Aisan carb to run on a 76 2F. Other than having the proper accelerator rods in place are there any issues that would cause me to avoid a carb from either of those years or can I just bolt it on? If it matters I plan on having Chenoweth or Mark (Mark's...

Anyone have a tow bar I can borrow or buy?

I need to move one of my cruisers to a friends for the winter. Brake master is shot so I need a secure way to pull it a few miles and thought the old style tow bar that mounts to the front bumper would be perfect but Uhaul no longers rents them. And right after Christmas I would rather not...

Wanted  Need a carb and a dizzy

Hi, I am on the hunt for a dizzy and a carburetor for my 76 2F. OK with either stock or a Weber. For the Weber route would prefer the 38 mm although the 32/36 mm would be OK. Will also need the applicable mounting plates and linkages along with an air cleaner housing assembly. Need a dizzy in...

    anyone looking for a project?

I have been doing some soul searching and decided that it may be time to part with my cherished cruisers. I have both a 67 and a 76 FJ40. I have a clear title to the 67 but only a bill of sale from Missouri for the 76 (but I think I have the forms from the state necessary to obtain a title)...

    Can You Identify this Part?

This came off my 76 FJ40. A while back I sold the carburetor (now I wish I had kept it) and I thought this was a cable guide for the choke but when I looked the pictures I took of the top of engine with the carb still installed I don't see this. So, where did it go and what is it called...

    rear leaf springs choices

From a design standpoint, is there reason to choose the 76 and later rear leaf spring over the 75 and earlier spring? I am getting geared up to remove the drive train from my 76 FJ40 and put it on my 67 and got to wondering whether or not the lower rear shock mounting point had any advantages...

I saw this posted on craigslist - priced pretty cheap. Don't know my 60/62 series enough to know what model an 87 works out to be. 1987 Toyota Land Cruiser disclaimer - don't know the seller and I am a disinterested unrelated party

    what is a hardtop worth?

Hi all - it has been many moons since I have lurked or posted on this forum. Anyway, I have a hardtop from a 76 FJ40 that I want to get rid of and was wondering about what to ask as a fair price. The liner is long gone and while the glass and seals on the side panels are in good shape, the...

    Drivetrain install help

I plan to install the drivetrain (2F, transfercase, tranny) and front/rear axles from a 76 FJ40 on my 67 FJ40. If I use the drive shafts from the 76, will the lengths be correct? I guess what I am really wondering is whether the newer 2F engine, t-case and tranny will more or less go exactly...

    accelerator question

I pulled a switch off that works with the accelerator on my 76 FJ40. I did not see the part on sor.com. It would only be actuated when the pedal is pressed all the way to the floor. It is a simple push-rod type switch that connects into the wiring loom under the dash. Did these vechicles...

    cigarette lighter removal - how??

I am attempting to pull the cigarette lighter from the dash of a 76 FJ40 - not the lighter itself but the unit it slides into....there is no lock ring on the front and I can't feel one on the back side. Does it just push (hard) out? Thanks. Steve Fishers, IN

    Carb and Dizzy Questions

I have a 76 2F that I plan on dropping into my 67 FJ40. I have the carb and dizzy that came stock, but no ignitor and ballast. I have the opinion that I am better off using an ignitor setup as opposed to just using a condenser. So, the questions I have are: 1) Does the ignitor work in...
