For Sale  [CO] 16 spline Orion

I have a never used, never assembled Orion transfer case. It's the 16 spline model that mates to a 4 speed transmission. This is the DIY version that requires dismantling your existing transfer case. This version also retains the rear output parking brake, as opposed to the fully assembled one...

    Going non-stock: 350 SBC and 700r4

I'd like to do this swap as well. I'd be concerned with the length of the rear driveshaft when using AA's kit, especially if the rear axle hasn't been moved back. Downey has an adapter for this swap and it's only 1" thick, as opposed to AA's 6.75" long adapter.

Did I do something wrong? RE: Disc brake conversion

Yep, that's exactly what I did. What a moron I am. Thanks all!

Did I do something wrong? RE: Disc brake conversion

I have recently completed a disc brake conversion on my early '75. I used a minitruck donor axle and bought a pair of '79-'84 FJ-40 steering arms in order to use the TREs I already had. However, now my tie rod appears to be way too long. With driver's side at full left lock, the passenger side...

    Hydro assist, Yes or No?

I used Rockstomper's kit and love it. Power steering alone wasn't enough for my scrawny arms to move aired down 37s on slickrock. I added the ram assist and no longer suffered from sore, tired arms at the end of the day. Completely transparent on the highway, too.

    Outer birfield c-clip?

Hehe, that's exactly what I used it for, too.

    Outer birfield c-clip?

I ended up calling Longfield. Turns out, you guys were right, although the Longfields do have a groove for the c-clip. The bolt/washer is necessary when using the Longfields on an otherwise stock FJ-40 axle, since Longfields are the length of minitruck birfields. The minitruck birfs are...

    Outer birfield c-clip?

I was missing a couple parts from the minitruck donor, so I made a trip to the junkyard earlier today. When I pulled the hubs off a 4runner, I found a bolt/washer that looks factory. Toyota puts this in there from the factory merely as something to pull on the shaft for seating the c-clip? That...

    Outer birfield c-clip?

'75 drum brake axle getting the minitruck brake treatment. I upgraded to 30 spline Longfield inners/outers at the same time. I'm using the Aisin lockouts from the minitruck. The Longfield webpage says I do not need a martack with these shafts. The walkthrough I'm using from the web says no...

    Steel Caster Shim Source?

Rocky Road has 'em, too (scroll to the bottom of that page). Sometimes they're slow, but they seem to have improved lately. I ordered some 5 degree steel shims from them about a month ago and received them in less than a week.

    Whats the infactuation w/ Beadlocks......seriously

I had 16 bolt beadlocks for about a year. In that year, I broke a total of 8 bolts among 4 wheels and fought leaks constantly. My constant tightening of the bolts to stop leaks was probably the main reason why I broke so many. They don't like to be overtightened. After a year of dealing with...

    Metal Tech Cages

How far is the short brace piece between the B-pillar bar (the main hoop) and the front profile bars from the occupants' heads? Can anyone with one of these cages confirm that there's plenty of room there?

Pics of Sliders with factory steps?....

I'd buy those in a heartbeat if they were commercially available. Beautiful.

    302 or 305???

Interesting analogy. The Ford EEC-IV is extremely customizable...probably too much so. Continuing the computer comparison, I would liken it more to working with linux. You can change anything, which can do more damage than good in the wrong hands. I also gotta agree with Mace on the prices...

    confer rear seat

I have one of these seats and posted up this very question a while ago. Turns out, this is how they normally function. Seems strange to me, too.

Installed a Rottenchester Quadrajunk on my FJ40 w/ 350 SBC

Nice review! I'm undergoing a very similar swap right now and I hope I get the same results. I'm switching from a Carter AFB to a QJet on my gutless 350. Where did you get the manual choke? I ended up grabbing a reman carb from Autozone because I was pressed for time and, of course, it...

    Why no Radius arm suspensions?

Correct. Fair enough. Pictures would aid the discussion immensely, but my MS Paint skills aren't up to the challenge. I'll leave it for another day.

    Why no Radius arm suspensions?

Stated only that way to illustrate to those who don't know how link systems are counted, since the definition of such in the fourwheeling world varies so widely. If, as I stated, the frame mount point was concurrent, it would become a single link. I mentioned nothing about triangulation changing...
