Update:
Well, I got the prices all today. I'm looking at $1500 for a full machine shop rebuild (just labor) and $1400 to my mechanic for taking it apart and putting it all back together. Then there is all the parts and fluids (~1200).
So I can have a rebuilt 80 for $4100 or I can sell the...
Update:
OK, so I still haven't got photos, but I did do a lot of thread research. I saw photos of pistons/walls that look exactly like mine. We checked all the wrist pins and they feel tight.
The piston heads on #1 and #5 appear to have overheated and the metal on the sides of these heads...
Bsmart - That is what I was thinking, this noise is something else. We are going to hone #1 and #5 and put her back together after checking a few more things today. My mechanic (whom I really respect) says this is the sound. It could be that he is right and I am not explaining it well enough...
@Kernal - I'll get some photos this afternoon.
@Pinhead - I'm not sure she's burning oil as much as bleeding. She's had a main seal leak for a long time. I'm sure she is burning some, but a lot is just falling out. I've compared notes with other 80 owners and it seems like the oil drinking is...
I have a locked 94 fzj80 (245,000m) that was ran low on oil and started to tick. There was no loss of power, and the ticking went away at highway speeds (or was just not audible). Ticking was loudest when accelerating from idle, or pushing it hard up a hill.
I had my mechanic pull the pan and...
Thnaks guys that's exactly what I was looking for, I list to give my mechanic for him to go over.
My door seals seem OK. I might have a small oil leak, but the PS pump leaks so bad its hard to tell where I am leaking from. The whole underside has an oily rust protective coating :D.
@Kernal is...
I'm looking for some recommendations from all of the MUDD experts regarding what I need to get done to my truck. Recently I received a settlement from the INS company and was able to buy back my cruiser as a slavage, have the damage fixed and now I have $3000 left to put back into her. I've made...
FZJ80 R front flare, green
Hi - I need to replace a right front flare on my green (6m1) FZJ80. I don't check back here everyday, but if you send me an email at jeremiaheaster@gmail.com, I will get back to you right away.
I might take another color if the price is right and if you can get it...
Hi all - I am looking for a green right front flare for an 80 (mines a 94 but I will take any available). If you've got one your willing to part with PM me the price. Thanks!
I have a slightly wrecked 1994 FZJ80 (green) locked with a few extras, CDL switch, slee lighting harness w/ toyota auxillary light switch controlling Pias. It has 230,000 on the ticker, HG was replaced at 80,000. Front axle was rebuilt with new birfs @ ~190,000. Engine is smooth, I've always run...
Hi all - I am in Seattle and am looking for both passenger side doors for a 1994 FZJ80 (green). I looked at a local wrecking yard and they list each door for $1500 .
Is this a normal price? Can anyone tell me a better place to look for these?
@spdwaver- thanks for the tip, I'll see what I can find. My 80 was locked with a front axle rebuild and an Hg replacement, might be hard to find comps within 200 miles, but I'll certainly try. Who knows, maybe they won't total it afterall, if they do it would be awesome if I could buy it back...
It definitely did serve its most important purpose. This is a sad day for me. I'm not a dog person, but if I was, I suppose that our affection for the family cruiser was like what many feel for a family dog.
update...
It took slightly over 4 years but the Cruiser may have seen its last trail and served its ultimate purpose.
At 11:15 this morning my wife was in the cruiser with my four children (all under 8 years old) and my mother in law when they were side swiped by a Volvo that decided to ignore...
Hi all-
I recently took my 94 cruiser on a 3500 mile trip from Seattle to the Mojave Desert. She had 200,000 miles on here at the start of the trip and she carried me without a glitch.
First I went over Mengle pass at the top of Goler canyon, Panamint Mountains. That was rockier than I...
Semlin-I had the same worry. My cruiser seems to suffer from high blood pressure too, lol. It runs exactly like yours and has run that way since I bought it 20,000 miles ago. I am at 203,000 mi. I assume by gauge is just a little screwy. As long as it remains consistent I'm not worried about it.
