Ignition rod fixed but steering wheel misaligned

A little off topic but what other non-routine modifications are important in order to avoid being stranded? We had actually come back from a road trip through remote Arizona and the day after the ignition rod broke. I don’t want to push my luck much more.

Ignition rod fixed but steering wheel misaligned

Reputable shop. Pretty big, so the actual mechanic/tech you get is a toss up. They've already offered to fix it again, but I'm starting to lose confidence. But I suppose not as much as I'm lazy, so bringing it back in may be the realistic option. Ignition rod just broke when my wife was trying...

Ignition rod fixed but steering wheel misaligned

Thank you for that explanation. If that is what happened, it sounds like disconnecting the lower steering shaft was unnecessary, so boo on them. I've messed with steering splines on other cars, so I'd guess I'm about 2-3 splines off, so I suppose it doesn't hurt to give it a try.

Ignition rod fixed but steering wheel misaligned

Thank you. I should also add that the mechanic mentioned something about messing with the steering column to get to the ignition. If the steering wheel did indeed get misaligned because they messed with the column, are there any issues if I just remove the steering wheel and adjust? I just...

Ignition rod fixed but steering wheel misaligned

That ignition rod broke. Mechanic fixed it but said they had to remove the steering wheel and they put it back about 20 degrees off. Big goof up. Second time it's close, but still off enough that I will be annoyed every time I drive it. The mechanic will try a third time, but is saying it's a...

    Fuel spurting from filler cap

Drove from sea level to 8k feet in the hot desert. I stopped to get something from the trunk and smelled fuel. I saw vapor coming from the fuel filler door so I opened the door and fuel was spurting out of the tightened cap. And without thinking I opened the cap and fuel sprayed out until I...

100-Series Windshield Expert in SoCal? (Another Wind-Noise Sufferer)

Alfredo is getting a lot of WELL DESERVED airtime. Here’s more info based on my experience and conversation with him. He does all the work himself with just his college age son providing extra hands. He is appointment only in order to have sufficient time. He is at the point where he can pick...

    Disable car to prevent theft

I think I’ll stick with this. I’ve done it on other cars when one of my teenagers get upset and I fear they will run off with a car in a bad state of mind!

    P0125 on the road

As I speak I’m on the road from LA to Tahoe. Got a CEL P0125 Research says O2 sensor or coolant sensor. Are there any side of the road diagnostics or repairs I should try? If I monitor engine temp gauge do you see any danger continuing my road trip?

Where’s this ATF leak coming from?

Thanks for the tip. Could be it. Here’s the steering box where it connects to the column, looking from underneath forward. As the high point, I’m guessing this is the source of the ATF leak. Is there an o-ring there that I should replace? Is ATP 205 a long term fix? And here’s a view from...

Where’s this ATF leak coming from?

A couple months ago I replaced the valve cover gaskets and I’m fairly certain the leaks are gone. But I’m still getting drips on my driveway. I’ve circled the low points that are wet: Here’s a closeup of the bolt making me think it’s ATF: Are there any common ATF leak points that I should...

    Disable car to prevent theft

Anyone have tricks for disabling the car or preventing theft of a 2004 LX? I’ve always worried about leaving the car alone off road. Of course being off road means there are very few thieves around. And maybe these cars are already hard to steal. But humor me. Thanks.

    Undercarriage wash tips

I live in Southern California so yes this is a question of privilege! Maybe 1-3 days a year I’ll go up to the mountains to see snow. I don’t go enough to apply undercarriage film to protect the car from rust but I feel like I should still do something. Undercarriage wash at the automated car...

Rougher idling after timing belt change

No misfire or trouble code though, which is what I’d expect with a bad coil. It’s on my radar but gonna look for a vacuum leak first.

Rougher idling after timing belt change

This makes sense. My RPM at 600 with AC off is low and that’s the vibration I’m feeling. Car is smooth as butter once I accelerate. My understanding is that a car out of time is very obvious. I will look into these. Makes total sense. I was actually planning on replacing the PCV, grommet, and...

Rougher idling after timing belt change

Right. When I’m at a stop light in drive, tach shows 600 which sounds low. When I put in neutral or park it’s closer to 800. I guess the question is why my RPM is low and what I can do about that? This could also be true but I’m pretty sure it’s not in my imagination!

Rougher idling after timing belt change

I don’t have a good picture of the left cam but I’m positive it was all lined up. Btw I did also change the radiator and all coolant hoses too but didn’t think that would be relevant. What does it mean when the vibration stops when putting in neutral? I have noticed that tendency in other cars...
