The conditions here in Panama are brutal on tires and batteries. Very common for normal batteries to last only 2-3 years. I pay a bit more for the Optima yellow top, which mule-kicks the 1HZ to life nicely and lasts a year or two longer.
i think that'll be a first, if you do it. never seen anyone really talk about heat barriers for ceilings, much less for a pop top. who knows, maybe you can get the pop top company to install a barrier, or maybe the pop top is enough of a barrier. cheers.
just saw this, great looking vehicle and wonderful work. i spent the pandemic modding my 2000 hzj78 down here in panama. there is one mod that not many people talk about which made a huge difference for my trips down to the lowlands. troopies have a tendency to become ovens in the sun, so i...
i second that regarding megazip. always have had good transactions with them. they always let you know what's up if there's a wrinkle and you can usually choose between japan and uae warehouses.
rebuilt the transfer with an under drive gear kit (Terrain Tamer) to get torque back to oem specs. my poor 1HZ engine had struggled ever since i threw on 33" tires, and now she's herself again. not cheap, but worth every penny. i swear my vehicle feels happy. huge thanks to cruiser brothers...
Threw some new glow plugs into my Troopy's 1HZ while doing a compression test. Not the most exciting thing on the surface, but hear me out...
Those thrashed glow plugs you see here were still working after 23 years in often brutal tropical conditions. Compression in all six cylinders was...
Love this forum... had to replace a sand flea-sized light bulb behind the climate controls, and i found the perfect thread from 2004 ("'70 Dash Bulbs"). Shout out to Stone for the perfect instructions. If I'd gone by some manual I would've busted at least one, maybe two plastic doohickeys...
for what it's worth, i went the original toyota mirror route. expensive, but so sweet. i'm thinking that if it's something you look at or use every day, get the good stuff if you can. same said for a bed, a tv, or a shower.
sure, just go to the terrain tamer website to have a look at all the kits. since you're in the states, i suggest contacting cruiser brothers who can get australian stuff drop shipped to you, if they don't already have the kits in stock.
Completed a brake system overhaul on the Troopy the other day. All the Terrain Tamer stuff: double diaphragm brake booster, master cylinder, calipers, pads, drums, shoes, braided lines, all the bits and pieces. Not cheap, but it made a huge difference, worth every penny. They say it improves...
thanks for all the input, gentlemen, much appreciated.
i may be leaning towards the TT unit, if cruiser bros have one in stock. shipping something from down under all the way to Panama is rough (i've done it when no other option was available), so if something is available in the U.S. it's...
There seems to be a lot of range in alternators. Anywhere from a lower cost Bosch to a Denso from Terraintamer or the OEM (which is apparently made of platinum and coated in gold and precious stones, according to the price tag).
Anyone have any suggestions? Only one battery to charge in a...
yup, that's what i got, the kings! you might have to remove that little plastic cover on the elbow to tighten a phillips head screw so they don't flop down. good luck!
very good advice, thanks. i got in there and tightened up the joint a bit. made a little difference. i also took a look at the inside of the original mirrors, and wow, what a difference. the original mirrors make the knock offs look like kids' toys. i decided to just get the real ones so as...
done and done. the company just contacted me that it's an easy fix... just tighten the screws. um, yeah... two screws that attach the mirror to the vehicle, plenty tight. the problem is the mirror angle adjustment hinge (no screw there). made out of silly putty.
