3 Gen Tundra Owners - Lets see 'em

After 9 months on a wait list, I got the call this past Monday. No markup either! Seems like trucks are beginning to show up all over the place?

Loud pop (backfire)....then died. Looking for confirmation on the problem.

I had the same, don’t remember who said it but the rule of “90% of carburetor problems are ignition” proved correct as usual :P You are on the right track with the dizzy, check points and timing!

Taking the plunge into FJ40s (what do I need to look for and avoid)

I found this helpful for establishing market values in general: https://www.classic.com/m/toyota/land-cruiser/40-series/?utm_source=alertsUpdate&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=MarketUpdate&utm_term=Toyota%20Land%20Cruiser%2040%20Series One thing I wish I had done is hire a qualified mechanic to...

Taking the plunge into FJ40s (what do I need to look for and avoid)

Here's some terrible advice... just buy one. Dreamed for a decade, got looking seriously for over a year. Amazingly a friend of mine took a '68 on consignment at his dealership and I drove straight there, then bought it after a quick test drive. Probably some things I would have preferred to...

What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

Pretty busy week for me. I installed a new brake master cylinder, did a number of fluid changes for 'spring maintenance' and replaced my aftermarket turn signals with OEM replacements appropriate for 1968 MY:

    Winter Meet up

Gravel Bottom in Ada has a sizable outdoor area and good parking close by. Same for Vitale’s on M-21 if there is interest in meeting while restrictions are in place.

What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

Among many things, new gasket, filter and cleaned my 40’s shot glass.

Help validating carb and strategy - 9/69 FJ40

Thanks! Didn’t realize they would have replacements for the 1BBL so much later. I was able to harvest the discharge port parts from the replacement and back up and running. After some hose tightening and working through the entire fuel system the FJ is running smooth!

Help validating carb and strategy - 9/69 FJ40

Just wanted to update here, and unless I’m missing it I don’t see a way to correct my thread title. This is an 8/68 FJ40. While I work through the entire fuel system I also needed to acquire the parts for the discharge port (which are missing), and struck out with every recommended source. I...

Help validating carb and strategy - 9/69 FJ40

Thanks all for the great ideas. I have identified the carb as manufacture date 8/68 batch 18. BTW, I misspoke earlier as this is a 9/68 manufacture titled as a 69! So I believe I need to replace the pump discharge weight, plug and steel ball according the diagram I have and my missing parts...

Help validating carb and strategy - 9/69 FJ40

Got it. I am missing the screw, weight and check ball so those are first on the list. At this point, should I consider replacing any gaskets or fix this first? I am assuming parts for this pre-3/69 1BBL are going to be hard to come by... THANKS for the clarity!

Help validating carb and strategy - 9/69 FJ40

I want to better what I have installed so I can adjust my strategy to get it in best possible running condition. I have learned that the service manuals (and often advice) don't quite apply when what you have does not match what it "should" have from the factory :) On a side note, I'd like to...

My FJ is a 9/69 build on frame and body, so assuming that means this carb was pulled from an earlier model?

Help validating carb and strategy - 9/69 FJ40

Thanks for tips. I should have been more detailed, but yes I have worked through timing and compression testing is next on the list. I've got fuel coming out of the carb in more than one spot so that's why I've got that next on my list. @65swb45 I will give you a shout!

Help validating carb and strategy - 9/69 FJ40

Hi folks, As I work through some idle and power issues, I’m looking at the carb more closely. Fair warning - I am a complete novice and learning as I go! I upgraded to an electronic ignition and replaced the coil. I have better power, and can idle more smoothly, but I think I am getting...
