    '74 FJ 40 Alternator Replacement

The most important thing is to not over tension the belt. If you make it too tight it will ruin the bearing

    That’s a real job!

    Engine replacement

I’m not really sure the build date. I do know the engine is not original to this rig. I would be happy to find the engine info next time I visit the yard it’s stored in.

    Engine replacement

No kidding. Hide your sons the gods of war are drumming. I met a guy with a scout running a cat motor. Said the swap was around 30 and he is not a guy who owns a wrench.

    Engine replacement

My budget is pretty open. I can afford to do whatever I want to and will likely do the work myself with some assistance from friends. I was actually thinking about trying to import a diesel from South America but that would be as much as a new crate motor from summit

    Engine replacement

The block is fine needs cylinders and pistons. I had the head rebuilt but would definitely do the bottom end just to be safe.

    Engine replacement

I’m looking for the best option for a good trail rig. I’d like to be able to chug over obstacles rather than have to give it the onion to avoid stalling. The only thing stock on my rig is the engine but even that has some interesting stuff going on. I was kind of hoping that someone here could...

    Engine replacement

My rig is meant for adventure. If I need to go a long distance I will trailer it. I want a motor and transmission that will be good in the rocks and also be capable of faster speeds when running between trails and such. I’m thinking about putting ford f350 axles in it so it will quit shearing...

    Engine replacement

Hi guys, I have found myself in a bit of trouble. The short version is I need a replacement engine and preferably a good 5 speed for my 69/ FJ40. I am looking for the best solution for reliabulity and could obviously use a little more power. That old 1F sure screams getting onto the freeway...

    HEI distributor conversation...

My DUI has been awesome. Just make sure that when you get spares or replacements for the internals they don’t sell you v8 stuff. That will cause the same issues discussed above. Runs but lots of misfire and extremely loud backfire.

Yes all for eBay. I carry a spare on extended trips even though it’s pretty bulletproof. Spares aren’t much but all together almost the cost of a whole distributor.

I broke my pinion on find and things. It was an all day trip to chase the third member from Proffits I was thankful for them though

Size and thread pitch of brake MC sensor holes

I can’t remember who posted this here but I found it quite useful when I was building my rig. Full but and bolt list.

Anyone know of a self voltage regulated bolt in alternator replacement for a 1971 FJ40? My stock alternator is dying and underpowered.

My 69 runs two. One is the stock alt and a second 150 amp that Gary from Gen Star in Phoenix built. $150 +1 (623) 939-2202.
