Thanks. I will start with tightening everything up to spec and inspecting tie rods.....really hoping i don't have a broken leaf. That seems like a miserable job.
Thanks for the replies. Generally in line with what I have been thinking. Looks like tie rod end work is staight forward. Bushing kits look cheap...any knowledge on how involved replacing bushings would be? I would imagine they are corroded to s***.
Hi All,
Started getting a "thunk"/"knock" when turning left while simultaneously going over a bump. Sometimes it does it going straight going over a large rut/bump at speed.
I have not had a chance to get under the truck to take a look but I figured, as always, there is usually a "most common"...
Hey bud,
I had this same issue. There is no part number, and most places will only sell it to you as a gasket kit. I called the guys at TLC4x4.com and they knew exactly what I was looking for. I think they shipped it to me for $15.
Great. This is exactly what I was looking for. Solid place to start. How tedious was this job? Sound fairly straight forward.
Thanks very much for the tip.
Hey,
4 Hi engages fine via button on dash. 4 low shifter seems to be stuck in place, I am afraid to force it and severely damage something. Can not engage 4 low. Have not had time to get in there and look around. Figured it was worth reaching out to see if this is a common issue before I start...
Hey,
Just wanted to throw a recommendation out there for any FJ owners looking for a mechanic in the Boston area. Volsar Automotive in Medford is a great shop to work with. Eddy has alot of experience with FJ40/60/62/80s and has built several from the ground up.
Very responsive, great guys.
Hey all,
I have a blown transmission output shaft seal. I am pushing ATF into my transfer case and need to replace the seal. Should be a $20-$30 part but I can only find complete rebuild kits.
Any leads or tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
So, turns out ATF was clean, no metal shavings....I was down 2 quarts of fluid however, no obvious leak. This appears to have been caused by a blown output shaft seal which was pushing ATF into the Transfer case....no bueno. Drained both ATF and Gear oil from Transfer case, replacing seal and...
All,
I am beginning to have some issues with engaging D and R when cold. Nothing drastic, but every now and then there is a hesitation before the gear catches. I am driving a 1990 FJ62 with 148k on the stock tranny. I am doing an ATF drain and fill this week, but have been researching other...
Havent had a chance to check out the hardline yet, but I suspect that may be the culprit. If it is rusted out or plugged, is there any reason it cant be clipped and replaced with a soft line?
I will check the fuel neck, but upon first examination it looked brand new. I'm thinking about having a smoke test done, is this worth it? Would it even work for this particular case, assuming it is the charcoal canister?
I contacted Toyota dealer a while back to inquire about gas tank recall. Tank was swapped in 1992....
What is a solid method for testing the gas cap is venting?
Again, thanks for the input, it is invaluable.
So I am having what appears to be a pretty common issue with my FJ62. When the truck is parked a fuel odor builds up in the cabin. I cant seem to find the source. Whats interesting is, as soon as I start it, whether I drive anywhere or not, the smell clears out.
I pulled the passenger side...
Alright boys, she passed! On the road for the next year. Almost got dinged for E-Brake tension and about 1mm of play in the pass. front wheel bearing.....This state sucks
So do I, but my garage/tools are in CT at my parents house. I need a mechanic locally, in the event something comes up and I'm not able to get the Truck there
