    noise when idle comes down

How old is your v belt. If it is old, when it gets cold it can make a high pitched whine. Also try tensioning your belt some.

    NV4500 question

The gear whine is a load of BS IMHO. My dad has a 93 chevy with the new venture 4500 (soon to be my tranny). The truck has 165,000 miles on it and the only whinning I hear is from him. But seriously, there is a little noise in 3rd gear, but it is no louder than my landcruiser, and shifts a...

    repair crack

It is very possible to fix the crack. Hoewever, where does the crack run, and how long is it. To fix it you will need a good cast iron rod preferably nickel based, such as 99Ni or 55Ni. Then you will need to "V" prep the both sides of the crack. Next weld it in tiny sections, and peen the...

I need a little help please

You say that it idled fine before you pulled the top off the carb? Well, a few years ago I had the same problem on my 1970 FJ40. As I recall, my engine ran fine until I let it idle, then it would slowly die. The problem I had was when I removed the top there was some sort of check ball that...

Very very hard to start when warmed up

How old is your battery? A few months ago mine completly died. When I installed a new one there was a big difference in how fast it cranked. How old are your plug wires? Also if you aren't running points what kind of ignition are you running. If it is electronic have you made sure to...

Carb Questions --Fast Idle and Vaccuum

I would try adjusting the fast idle screw under the choke assembly. If you need any info on how to adjust the carb I can email you a copy of the tuning instructions for the weber. As far as the smell of gas it may be possible, however, once the engine is warm does it still idle low? IMHO I...

Carb Questions --Fast Idle and Vaccuum

Well, to start off. Is your carb manual or electric choke? Next, the vacuum port plugged with the screw shouldnt effect anything as long as there isnt a leak. As for the distributer, if it is not plugged into your carb the vacuum advance does not work. If it is disconnected that is fine...

    newbie from wyoming

Oh, ok, just a thought, I went there once they had a few 40's they had just brought in. I guess I got lucky on that one, I took the few things that were decent on them and left, however they had a 4 speed tranny there but I didnt need it. I will agree, theres not much there in the way of cruisers.

    newbie from wyoming

Hey, we may be big and empty, but we have 9 of the top 10 coal mines in the United States, we just might have power shortages if it werent for us so its not all bad. Loren you might want to check Mr. R's in buffalo, they might have something by chance. Also on my way through Douglas I see a...

    Low oil pressure???

40 psi at an idle, are you runnign 10w-30? Its the standard remote oil filter that is original, it takes a ph-8 and is mounted the side of the intake manifold just below the air cleaner. It was at 1000 miles and the oil just got dark, no visible particles just the standard dirty oil.

    Low oil pressure???

Not to start any fights but what do you guys consider a freshly rebuilt engine? I would think that after putting 1,200 miles on an engine should sufficiently break an engine in. For the first 500 miles the oil pressure was 50 psi at an idle since then it has slowly dropped, hence being broke...

    Low oil pressure???

Hey all, Changed my oil today, no metal came out so all seems well. Pressure is back to 15 psi at an idle, it was low when I first started it up but i loosend the oil line at the back of my gauge and bled out all of the air and oil pressure is reading normal again.

    Low oil pressure???

Im using a stewart warner mechanical gauge. When I rebuilt the enginge I replaced the cam bearings, main bearings, rod bearings, all the seals/gaskets, new pistons and rings, new frost plugs, new oil pump, and new camshaft. Hopefully that will clear up any uncertainties.

    Low oil pressure???

Hello, I had a question you guys might be able answer. I recently rebuilt my 1970 F engine, i have since put on 1100miles with the break in oil. When i rebuilt the engine I made sure to use assembly lube on everything, and I also pressured up the oil system by using a drill with a rod that fit...

    aux gas tank

Well, if you have the time, patience, and skills you can make your own tank similar to the aftermarket tanks. I built one for my 40 my soph. year in high school. I used 1/2 plate for the bottom(no need for skid plate) and 3/16 for the rest of it. If you go this route make sure that you vent...
