Hello legends,
Seriously considering parting ways with my 1979 BJ40 24volt with 65,000km. Wondering if you guys could help me out with a price.

Recently pulled my starter hoping to fix my stuck starter issue. Looks like my plunger fused to the contacts. Besides replacing the plunger and contacts would love to get some feedback on how everything else looks.
Should I replace anything else while I am I there?
@Freewheel 👌🏻 Any recommendations on where to get the new contacts and maybe a new plunger while I am in there?
Once I have it out I’m hoping to have some part numbers.
@Squash so it looks like there are 2 wires running to the starter. 1 from the battery to the starter and another that appears to come from inside the cab to the starter. I disconnected the one from the cab in an attempt to “isolate” out the ignition switch or starter relay as issues.
I then...
@duncanrm 🤣 “wrong hand”
I will look into that! That seems like the best first step before I go messing with the ignition.
@Squash I will try to isolate it first. Right now it is engaged with no key even in the ignition. I wonder if I can take the ignition out of the equation and see if that...
Great idea! Why didn’t I think of that? 🤣
Guess the point of this thread is I have no idea what I am doing. Hoping someone who had a similar experience or someone with more knowledge can help point me in the right direction. Electrical VS mechanical? Ignition switch VS starter Solenoid? Dogs...
Hello legends
Got a bit of an issue with my 1979 BJ40 starter stuck on. I hopped in to start it like normal and it stayed cranking and I can’t get it to stop. Tried turning the ignition off and back on with no change. Even with no keys in the ignition it keeps cranking. If I cut the fuel and...
Some good info here. @land cruiser kid you ever figure it out?
@bj40green “So it's not an electrical problem. If it was, the starter would come free at the first time you switched it off.”
Mine has stayed cranking and I can’t get it to stop. Even with no keys in the ignition. If I cut the fuel...
Great info in here. I’m gonna try the mallet idea tomorrow.
Seems that I am having the same issue in my 79 BJ40. Tried to start it and the starter just kept going till I disconnected the battery. As soon as I reconnect the battery the starter is cranking.
This had happened once before and...
Hey Jim ~ Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I did find the installation guide you were talking about. Cleared up a lot of questions. I still have a few more if you don’t mind.
1) Is this a 22 gal tank? From searching it seems that is the size referenced most.
2) I assume one of...
So my BJ40 came with a secondary fuel tank in the back as extra parts. It has a fuel pump installed and wired. I assume the fuel lines are currently set up to bypass the secondary fuel tank as it is not installed.
I’m trying to figure out any info on how this fuel pump works and how to plumb...
