distributor was completely dry though, and it sat there for about 24 hours. on a 35degree c day. as soon as i adjusted the points gap, started normally. so weird

So i got the car cleaned the other day, i'm sore of happy with the job, all the easy places seem really clean, but it looks as though they didn't even try and get some of the harder stuff off. anyway, pictures!

just bought a feeler gauge and had a play around with the points. didn't really have much of an idea on how to set them, but i got the points to where they opened the most, and then set them to just a teeny bit wider than .018. car started. i'm guessing that maybe the points slipped closed. or...

How'd you go wiring it up, end up getting it to go? i'm thinking of getting a petronix igniter for my fj26 (3f) as i've been having a heap of trouble with the points lately. not sure if i want to pay the $230 the mechanic wants to install them though.

Not sure how to check the plugs, but i've taken the distributor cap and rotor off, and turned it over. can see the spark between the points. It did start though, and would keep starting. but it would just die seconds later. also, if i just turned the key, it wouldn't even sound like firing up...

Oh right, my bad. I'm in Australia. Our 62's do. apparently they've got a plastic coating on them when they're new. and should be cleaned? wouldn't know if it's true or not though.

Check the points, i've been burning points every month or so lately, which has been causing this problem. can't seem to figure out whats burning them out, new mechanic suggested that the previous mechanic didn't clean the points before installing them.
