Hi folks,
After the disappointment that Alu-Innovations would not split my rear shelf, I decided to tackle it myself. I removed the shelf from the car, cut the marine ply and carpet with my radial arm saw then used a jigsaw to cut through the tubing before taking it to my trusty tig welding...
Yeah, I'm thinking of doing the cutting myself and then just getting my local aluminium guy to weld in two cross bars. Interestingly, my "middle bars" run across the platform from left to right instead of your "back to front".
Hello Alet,
Please could you advise who did the cutting and welding in of the extra bars for the splitting of the back shelf? We have just returned from Botswana, and this is now our top priority change.

Peter
Hi. Not sure if I missed it somewhere, but did you change the plywood used in the rebuild? Is it 12mm marine ply? If so (or not), what did you use and where do you buy it?
I agree that your rig is looking superb, well done.
I too am frustrated about not travelling and have had to cancel two booked weekends away, and our Botswana trip in September is hanging in the balance.
In the mean time, I have rearranged the side "kitchen" to make it easier to get pots and...
Hi, it's me again.
What tanks are you fitting and where (both on the car and by whom)?
I am having my Alu-Cab 270 awning fitted on Friday - can't wait.
Cheers,
Peter
Yes, our bases are metal (Aluminium) square tubing wedded all round with a 10mm plywood base for the 75mm mattress. We could easily add a "lip" on the main bed part onto which the two flaps could rest. As the flaps don't really ever carry much weight they should be fine (unless now that we can...
Thanks for pictures. Did you create some form of flap on the main bed that support each flap when down? ie so that they are supported by more than just the sides?
