It works fine, it's just purely for aesthetic reasons. I just hate the egg yolk look. I'd rather replace it with an amber LED bulb or, worst case, a chrome covered amber bulb.

For the most part surrounds are surrounds... Pretty much all will degrade in a hot car after 20+ years. If they don't list them directly, you can get measurements of the surrounds (inner and outer diameter, etc) and match them up with the generic surrounds they sell.

Agreed, I'm just trying to see what could have caused that to happen. I can not find a meaningful cut/crack/split on that boot anywhere that would have allowed water in. Also, trying to determine if the consistency of the grease is normal, or if it does look like a mix of water/oil.
