this install was cake and it's doing it's job and grabbing oil at a prodigeous rate.
What's the most likely cause of high oil catchment - rings / valve seats or valve stem seals ?
I'm assuming rings ?
All done.
Follow the plan for the spacing on the “Hats” which is what the call the crossbars.
You don’t need to drill out the front mount points at all - it just bolts up to the seat mount anchor point you took out in the early stages by the instructions.
Drill out the rear anchor mounts...
Not gonna lie - these instructions suck.
So the online document on install gives 2 conflicting spacer sizes for the 80 for hat position A :
I assume this is 5 seat vs 7 seat - The paper instructions that came with the drawers agree with the 15mm spacing for hat position A for the 7 seat...
Victory is mine.
If anyone else runs across this thread with the same issue - here is what worked for me.
Constant pressure from the hi-lift didn't do much in my case - what did work was I put a block of wood under the swing arm as close to the spindle as possible and applied violence with a...
First up grab the Toyota manuals for the truck and ditch the Haynes - you can download them here : https://forum.ih8mud.com/resources/1996-fzj80-fsm.27/ The Haynes is OK - the Toyota manual is gospel...
These trucks are pretty easy to work on - so don't let it intimidate you. I'd reset the...
If you've no CEL on the dash it's burned out or someone removed the bulb - it's an easy fix.
When you start the truck does it light up ?
I'd replace the bulb and reset the code and see if it reappears = you may get enough time before it triggers again to get through emissions
Then go ahead...
Yea rebuild kit from Luke is sitting on the toolbox - good call on putting the nut on to protect the threads.
Did the chisels etc work or was heat the key ?
Was this the NE station just off 33rd ? I was there at 1:00 pm today doing my '97.
Weird they flagged the catalyst as my report says unready also and the truck passed.
I've had intermittent P401's - but I just clear the code and it generally stays off for 6 months at a time - certainly enough...
Trying to rebuild the swing out on my truck - the cap and castle nut came off easily enough , however it's all rusted to heck and the top bearing inner race appears to have rusted to the spindle.
Some things I've tried -
Percussive persuasion - no dice - but the screwdriver did slip and chew...
Anyone got a part number that works as a substitute for these - my truck just started leaking on the passenger side and the part is listed as NLA everywhere.
I'm a big fan of preventative maintenance as I roll solo as a landscape photographer.
PCV valve and hoses are already on the way - one of the hoses has a visible split. Agree it's likely valve stem guides....
HG has not been done as far as I can tell.
I appreciate the time you took to view...
Here is 4-6.
4 come out really wet with oil and there is a ton of carbon build up - it's just nasty.
It came out a little easy and I'm half wondering if it wasn't torqued properly by whoever did the plugs last ?
Two bore pics are from #4.
