I haven't had the pump out of my 100 yet to see the design but sucking gunk in the lines is not generally an issue due to the screen in the tank. Any chance the previous owner had T-belt done and they have either the intake or exhaust cam retarted by just a tooth or two. I'm new to the 100 series but was a tech for 16 years and have seen a few belts installed with the exhaust cam retarded a tooth and for the most part the engine runs ok...
