Greetings from Eugene, OR! I just joined mud yesterday but have been perusing the forums for over a year now while shopping for my first LC. I ended up purchasing an '01 LX 470, it has 215K miles on it, all stock except for an AHC lift and I...

Hadn't considered switching to an LC front end... thanks!

$500-700 seems to be the going rate. Check the parting out section here. Most junkyards will negotiate on the price. Here's one on eBay for $500 plus tax, shipped. Also consider an LC hood if you ever wanted to switch it up for an LC front end...

'99 Lexus LX470. I understand OEM hoods are discontinued and there are no aftermarket hoods. I found a used one (junkyard) for a staggering $1600. Another used hood for $550. I presume the junkyard market reflects the scarcity? Anyone had to...

Ok, it’s done and it looks a whole lot better. The shop removed the inner plate for the center arm and the shackle mount to straighten the frame and then welded them back on. They had to do the inner plate twice though because when I went to pick...

I have always wanted an FJ40 after growing up in the 60's in Florida. Our neighbor down the block was a flagger for the Daytona raceway and had an FJ40 and a Cobra in his driveway. I was hooked. The FJ's are a little more affordable, so I chose...

Water was coming into my front floorboard as well. Driver's side in my case. I thought it was the windshield at first, but decided to reseal the gutter seams first because they didn't look great. It solved my water issue. I documented the...

After we lost control on gravel and hit a tree (low speed, no one hurt), I went on the hunt for another 100 within our budget, which was not easy. I bought the one we totaled (a 1998 LX470) 9 years ago with 121,000 miles for $10,500. That rig...

Right after finishing up the left side of the frame, we went straight to the right side — and yep, no surprises there. Pretty familiar picture: rust, thin metal, and questionable past repairs. The frame was in just as bad a shape, so we...

Another month and a half has gone by. Got a little stuff done. I got the square tubing for the spring mount repair, but I didn’t like the fit. It needed to be a little wider to fit center better over the mount, so instead I had some plates made...

Be sure that the wires you cut are not shorted to each other as a result of the cutting. Reach in there with a toothpick and separate the wires so that they clearly cannot touch each other.
  • SteveH
I would remove it and cut it without hesitation. A number of non-OEM hoses (like Gates) for older 4Runners say 'cut to fit' - so it's expected.

I've kept pretty quiet on this topic, well, because why beat a dead horse? To my own weakness, I have a hard time with this whole topic to begin with. I consider Matt a friend and have quite a bit of empathy. I've never met him in person, but I...

My approach/discussion here: FJ40 side seam - fill with seam sealer or not? - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/fj40-side-seam-fill-with-seam-sealer-or-not.1355402/ Two things: Good seam sealers are 2 part/cured - not just solvent-based crap in a...

Get a Powerstroke Ford F-250/350 instead! Then when you have to make an emergency maneuver, it won't all end up in a ditch, upside down.

Started preparing the door jams for refinishing. Scrapped off old vinyl top and weather strip. Next is wire wheel. Gotta cover up my freshly painted first though.

SteveH replied to the thread GX470 Not Starting. Blown engine?.
@Cyberlocke A buddy of mine has had two 4.7s that appeared to be 'seized' when in fact, the starter disintegrated and locked the engine. I would have the shop (or yourself) install a starter and try to fire it up. Until it's running and you...

Group 27 is slightly bigger and more capable than a Group 24, and still fits the FJ40 tray. Interstate at Costco - about $115.

Nice 40. I would avoid the biggest mistake I see many people make with older vehicles…they try to do to much. Classically known as “while you’re in there”. Keep the 40 running and driving while you make repairs. Many 40’s have been taken...

A recent update from @greenEFSI had me thinking about my little ones and my cruisers. I have hundreds of photos of my kids and I enjoying cruisers, but for some reason this one hit me the other day. This is from maybe 2005 or 2006, I'd have to...
