Had this dilemma on an older 60that I had and now just rebuilding an 85 60 and here's my 02. cents. On my old rig I pulled the smog stuff becuase I could, Put in an alternator in its place and had an extra battery. Nice being able to jump yourself and....power a winch. Then I replaced the leaky...
I am trying to get the brakes figured out on a 1985 60. New master Cylinder, new front calipers and pads, new rear pistons, shoes and hardware. Cannot get things to bleed, I believe it is the proportioning valve but do not know how to test it. I have seen somewhere about a test in the FSM but...
It did...the rest of the story..I was so careful about putting in the disc backwards that's what I did. Pulled it all myself, sure enough disc was backwards. I checked the flywheel and it was perfectly flat, I roughed it up with an air buffer, just to where it was not glossy, put in a new clutch...
So...What ended up being the issue? I am having the same problem, all new parts except the Proportioning valve...will not bleed. Going to re-bench bleed and start from scratch, how did you get the valve pin re-centered?? Thx.
I'm finishing up on a break job so I can get it on the ground and see what its doing, answers to the above:
The disc lifts from both side,
The rig is new to me,
Got it w/o an engine or motor mounts, rebuilt an engine from a 78,
Tranny was in the 85 when I got it, Looks great, feels succinct on...
It lifts from both sides and I was very cognizant of that happening when I put it together. I also do not believe it would disengage at all if it was backwards? but as a last resort I'll have to pull the tranny back and look
I'll check that but I know my throw is part of it because I can't shift at all if I don't turn my adjustment in on my release lever. Also when I can shift 1 thru 4 I go to reverse and it wants to grind...So, maybe a synchro? if they have one? don't know all about the trannys on these.
New pilot bearing, went together well, everything bolted up fine, almost looks like it could be the throw distance of the slave? I put oem size master and slave in so throw should be correct, I'm going back to zero and measured the pedal height, maybe that's it? distance of pedal movement equals...
1985 60 build, with 78 2F and 4 speed out of donor 78 40 series. Rebuilt engine, runs great, put in original clutch because it was good per the FSM and this is a budget build, not a daily driver. Flywheel and pressure plate was good, clutch was ok per FSM, new master and slave (correct for 85...
I don't know, don't have anything but a bottle, rebuilding a 60. I don't know how it gets back in if the cap is spring loaded?
My cap and straw etc is all broken, falling apart, I'm going off the cap design that its a one way flow.
Right, the cap is pressurized but once coolant goes to the jug, how does it re-enter the system? My thought was to add an aluminum sealed recovery jug. That way when then system cools, it creates vacuum, pulls the coolant back in to the radiator.
So, have not found anything on this but my old 60 has a bad cap, tube for the coolant recovery jug. I noticed that it appears to be an "open" system and understanding that pressure plays a crucial part in controlling temperature wouldn't it be wise to just install a pressurized recovery bottle...
