Builds South Texas 97 - New to me

Not surehow to "follow" but I'll look for updates. Once you make it up here (Alaska) keep me in mind if you have trouble or need anything. Valdez is a cool little city, a little out of the way, but worth checking out if you have time. Good luck, have fun and take your time. Wish I had spent more...

You'll be glad you took the forty. Have a couple fuel cans, some good tunes and just enjoy the ride. Plenty of help along the way.

Blue smoke on startup after sitting/after throttle stab

I used a length of rope (3/8 x ??') and stuffed it in the cylinder, turned the crank until the the cylinder compressed the rope at TDC, that kept the valves from dropping into the cylinder while I changed out the valve stem seals. Borrowed the spring compressing tool from Auto Zone. Took a...

    Adjusting carburetor

Why did you NOT replace the Idle Fuel Solenoid? I'd start there. Also, running with full or partial choke makes me think there's an air leak. Carb base and intake manifold are culprits. It is not uncommon for cracks to form inside the intake manifold, remove the carb and look.
