I don't think the cargo box will cut it. Having overlanded with Jake, I know his family has become very comfortable with trailer camping. He used to have a pretty good set of totes he'd pack on top of his rack for camping, before the trailer...
Ive been obsessing over moving from a 460 to either:
A: 570 - don’t want to invest in a dated platform.
B: 600 - a bit concerned about turbo
C: 550 - pretty much the same thing as a 600 but looks better and gets slightly worse mpg’s
I was only...
Put a cargo box on the roof of the GX. They barely affect MPG and (if you get a good one), will make almost no wind noise. You can easily put all sorts of light, bulky stuff up there (i.e, clothes, shoes, pillows, sleeping bags, folding camp...
Keep the GX. Like you said, late model well cared for LXes just don't see the car lots very often, the people who bought LX570s mostly knew what they were getting and intended it to be a 10+ year decision.
I haven't looked at the current gen...
If you're looking at the new 4R, then you might as well shimmy over to Lexus and look at the new GX550 as well. It too is larger.
Also, regarding interior room on the GX460, I feel your pain. We just came back from seven days camping with family...
Have you looked here: GX 460 Manuals?
It a sticky post on the main page. If you go down to post #2, you can download the FSM manual. That should get you want you want.
Note when downloading: The download will be all PDF's, but you have to go...
Have you looked into the inner, inner inflation beadlock system? For myself, that's be the I'd want to go.
Also, if you should shred a sidewall and are out of spare's, you could in theory use it like a "run-flat", without ruining your rim.
Lifetime is 60k if you tow anything, carry anything on your roof or do regular off-pavement travel. I wouldn't call it insurance but maybe good practice to replace a cheap hose while doing a coolant exchange. Belt too.
The thing in the bottom is a soft sided CD case. So it looks like it would fit that way both side to side and if held vertically. Keep in mind there's a neoprene pad that fits in the bottom. I didn't want to alarm anyone by taking a gun out there.
These pics you can see my construction lines. The curve on my viper cut is the curve on my belt sander. The little Porter Cable is indispensable for shaping.
I watched a few of their videos as well, certainly heartbreaking. Another non-automotive guy I used to watch - the Desert Drifter - was also killed in a car accident after coming back from a hike. Certainly quite sad :(.
At 108 k miles, that sounds about right for a radiator replacement. Then you can do all your hoses and belts too. I replaced mine at just under 100 k. Unfortunately I didn't have the presence of mind to get a better, ALL aluminum aftermarket...
You may want to also ask if anyone on this forum is getting rock sliders and has any take-off's they need to get rid of!.
Could get them for the cost of shipping?
Or, just go with a simple solid step slider, like Slee and paint if factory with...
This post is not GX related and may be deleted, but that's okay. But it’s 100% Toyota related.
This is a shout out to Matt Yeomans and Stacey Tourout, creators of Toyota World Runners YouTube channel. They have a great Youtube channel of off...
