The ign should not heat the solenoid power for starter and crank engine in the on position, it sounds to me like you got the main power into ign switch & the output from ign to starter switched.
Can you flip the gear around on the shaft ? Like what Charlie did on the solenoid contacts.
If not x2 on Pardion. Is that gear specific ? or could you use a gear from a later starter ?
