7x series cost of ownership in USA

X2 on Hagerty. They will do a stated value policy on a JDM Cruiser and it's very inexpensive. I have had a lot of non US market vehicles, I would steer clear of the regular insurance companies. They will say it is insured but in the event of a total loss, proving value is incredibly difficult...

    Question about hand throttle operation

I agree, I don't have any issues with mine once I adjusted it. Having had several hand throttles on my Rovers, I actually prefer the Toyota ones location. I use it all the time when I am winching to idle the truck up to keep the alternator charging. I like being able to reach in the window to do...

    Question about hand throttle operation

Check that it's not spinning in the dash. There is a knurled nut behind the handle and if its loose you are turning the entire cable jacket back and forth and not the actual cable. They can work loose over time. Cable just goes to the accelerator pedal and moves it. You should not have to touch...

    Alternative Hi-Flow T-stats for the 2LTE? 3RZFE maybe?

Agreed on the Tridon. I am running one now, but I no longer trust them. The one that failed on me would only open max about 3 MM at full expansion. I caught it immediately so, it didn't do any more damage to my already cracked head. But, had I not been right down the road from my house and not...

    Alternative Hi-Flow T-stats for the 2LTE? 3RZFE maybe?

That's what I got to thinking as well after watching the temp differential after I swapped to a digital gauge. We all assume the radiator is the too small or not efficient enough. Myself included. But, I kept watching the drastic temp drop and it made me realize that would be impossible if the...

    Alternative Hi-Flow T-stats for the 2LTE? 3RZFE maybe?

I agree flow rate is a big factor in how the engine cools. My testing thus far has agreed with yours. After switching to the high flow Tridon my temp drop at opening was much more dramatic. And, because of the digital gauge I use my response time is very short, so it is extremely obvious when...

    Builds My LJ78 build thread...

I like what you did with the snorkel. I am running the same one on my LJ. I routed the intake slightly different, but I am really happy with how it ended up fitting despite not being for our trucks exactly.

FAQ LJ78 Brake Parts Cross Thread

Some brake line info. Front and rear. These are all 2" longer than stock for lifted vehicles. I can do some research later and find factory length cross reference. Extended brake lines for the LJ78 are : You need 2 of these. Toyota 96940-34705 or Bendix 78575 or Dorman H380535 or Raybestos...

    2L TE ticking

That's exactly what I thought of when I listened. You should definitely take Nick up on that offer to get this identified. I can't identify that one,but it's pretty terrible sounding. It would definitely help to figure out what area of the engine it's coming from. On a good note @Cascadia...

Custom Radius Arms for the light duty 70 series?

Funny you mention that. I have spit those bushings out before like you are talking about. The old Poly bushings were really prone when they got old. Makes a hell of a racket getting back to the road with the radius arm thumping around in there every time it moved.

Custom Radius Arms for the light duty 70 series?

The older setup is the same as the Land Rover design before they went off the rails and started building glorified mini vans. You can get a ridiculous amount of flex from that set up reasonably easily. Even with factory bushings the Land Rover had at least twice the flex my LJ does. I to have...
