Won't hold water, dirt, etc. Also it seems like having it open at the top could lead the puck to get dented or damaged. A small chance, but still. And as above, less likely to move with the open end down.

It's just held there by the spring pressure. From what I understand the shocks are what limits the downtravel of the axle so the spring cannot shift slightly
