Steering update - it works. Put it on the ground, steers with 2 fingers on the wheel lock to lock at idle. Hot rodded p-pump seems to have plenty of pressure and flow at idle. Before I couldn’t make the new to me 37x13.50x17 E rated STT Pros on...

Pics. Only thing I don’t like is that the ram is about even with the bottom of the axle housing, but with my leaf setup and everything so low, there were no other packaging options. If my tie rod was on top of the steering arm, I’d have less than...

I totally missed this thread. Montana isn’t too far from Colorado. Come on over if you want to take a ride in something similar to what @Rock40 described above.

I’m stopping here. This will be a fun project while the Cruiser is away at summer camp.

I finished changing the fluids and getting the Cruiser ready for the shop. I drop it off this afternoon to get the A/C system measured, then I will pick it up tomorrow and bring home to install the hydro assist. It goes back to the shop next...

I don’t know about the axle, but the 327 was a pretty common dealer swap that was often covered by warranty. https://www.hotrod.com/features/chevy-swapped-toyota-fj40-started-baja-1000

Still an alright run. Nice to come back after black bear though

This sounds like excellent progress! I have most of my PSC pieces and the rest should be here tomorrow. I have a 4-day weekend coming up and my plan is to just focus on installing the assist. I’m hoping to finish early and relax on the back...

Are you writing about work that you have done in the past or are these recent updates? My IAT is about 20-30 degrees above ambient temperature but it will climb to 120-130 when I am crawling and mine seems fine, though it is a different engine. I...

Medano Pass has dispersed camping on the Wet Mountain Valley side. Camping from the summit to the sand dunes are dedicated “primitive” sites that are reservation only. There’s also a postage stamp of BLM land that @CenTXFJ60 showed us a few...

Happy Father’s Day. First time topless for the patina green 😍

I’ve never use a kinetic rope for towing. Let’s hope that we don’t have to do that but I will try it next time that I do. There is nothing worse than being yanked around on the blacktop by a strap. Thanks for sharing.
  • Mike Shull
IMO the only time a kinetic rope is not superior is when you need to extend your winch line. A kinetic rope/strap is much easier on the vehicle being used to extract a stuck vehicle and also easier on the vehicle getting extracted as it has give...

I should clarify as it seems as if I may have sent a misleading message. I didn’t intend to suggest that someone new should only pack a kinetic rope.
  • Mike Shull
Thanks for sharing that. Normally I would recommend bringing a kinetic rope to Colorado all year around (and an ice scraper) as it can snow in July/August and there are normally drifts that can block the road at high elevations all year around. I...

I keep some straps (certified US made lifting straps) in the rig. I am very comfortable using them as I trust them and know exactly how they behave, and have been to the place they're made and have seen first hand how they are tested. I have...

Don’t be caught without safety equipment. I need to replace my recovery ropes and there are so many options. What do you all recommend. I am also thinking of doing volunteer rescue so I need something durable. My machine slings and rigid ropes...

That generational cruiser thing you got going is pretty cool. I wonder how many on here have their ‘family heirloom’?
  • Mike Shull
That would be a pretty cool chat around the campfire. In hindsight this one probably should have been restored had I not cut it up when I was 15. I’m happy with my decisions though as it has never driven better and I am excited to get it back to...

Well its new home is in Tn. I do plan on keeping this thread updated. Hoping to get started on this project asap. Still staying LS but changing it up with a 4l80 and splitcase. Sent my son to pick it up and want to thank matzell for all his help.
  • Mike Shull
You need to bring this thing to CO.

Wait a second, the trailers are different. These were two different trips. The first one might be Rio Honda. The second one is most likely at Hermit Peak between Creede and Lake City.
  • Mike Shull
BTW, I zoomed in to see that sweet two-tone paint and I noticed your stunned son in the background. That will be a great photo to look back on in 40 years. Ha. You can show him these two embarrassing pictures. I am guessing that this was a...

GAIA is like OnX kinda. Just a powerful gps app that shows off-road trails etc… It’s just for no signal guidance. The resources you guys are sharing are what I was looking for as well as any recommendations or recent personal experience.
  • Mike Shull
What is GAIA? I mentioned those other resources because they have current road statuses. ☺️
