Starting issue of a different sort... '97FJZ80

Yeah, they are a pain to pull in and out, but a $30.00 rebuild beats a new starter if it's in decent shape. That's pretty much where I'm heading now anyway. For the time and cost involved it is worth replacing at this point with a new one if it's not working right. I'm curious about whether...

Starting issue of a different sort... '97FJZ80

Hey Everyone, Been trouble free for a while now but have recently had some starting issues. Last fall had some intermittent starting and replaced the contacts and plunger which solved the problem. Several months ago something new started very intermittently. I turn the key and the motor...

Thanks guys, Yeah, looks like I'll have to do some measuring and do a fit test. Thanks for the input though! E

    Tire/rim question...

Hi Guys, After a solid 80k miles on the current set of BFG AT/KO's, I need to replace them. I found a set of 285 75 R16's on nice aluminum rims that came off a Chevy Silverado. Poking around the site it seems as if the larger size (currently running 270 70 R16) won't be much of an issue...

    Is your 80 buzzy?

I know exactly what you're talking about. It's hard to put into words, and a "buzzing" is definitely not it. It's more of a throaty feeling. I bought my 97 a year ago with 65k (85k now) and have only noticed this harshness in the past few months. I haven't really done much to chase it down...

De-blinging - got rid of gold on front T emblem

Thanks for the suggestions, I shudda searched before I wrote but the thought just hit me when I was reading Charlie's original question. I'll try to be more dilligent in the future. I'm curious about the fishing line method, I'll hunt it down. I've got to fix a big ding on the tailgate so I...

Newbie question on rear seat parts...

Hi there, My '97 has covers on both the front and rear brackets on the middle row. The front ones don't stay on so well now that I've taken them off and on several times (without the seats the air mattress fits in quite nicely for those overnight fishing trips...). Maybe the '97 is different...

De-blinging - got rid of gold on front T emblem

Any suggestions for de-blinging the rear? I was thinking of trying a heat gun to soften the adhesive to remove them for painting for possibly for good but welcome suggestions. E

    Removing running boards....

Thanks for the imput! I ordered the flaps from my new best friend Cruiser Dan. The Toyota dealers around me told me the part didn't exist, in fact they told me the whole running board didn't exist, but I knew they were out there somewhere. Those were interesting shots of what got by the flaps...

    Removing running boards....

Thanks, I'll give him a call. Hopefully, this will take the "soccar mom" edge off the car. I'm coming from an '88 FJ-62 and while I'm very happy with the car, it's nowhere near as tough looking. I also have another question about the '80 about locking differentials but I'll start a new...

    Removing running boards....

Hi there, Great forum, hope I might be able to get some answers. I want to remove my running boards from my '97 but can't seem to find any replacement parts to come off the bottom of the front fender flares that will continue that line down and allow (maybe include) mudflaps. It doesn't...
