I installed the lift when i got the cruiser about 5 years ago. Drove it through high school then bought another truck and just drive it every now and then. But i never had any vib problems until that pinion bearing went out. But i did drive it probably more then i should have with that bearing...
Well the vibration was way worse before the repair because my pinion bearing was shot. But now it only does it at higher speeds and under a load. Could it be my pinion angle? I wouldnt think with a 4" lift it would effect it.
Hey I just looked through your thread and thought I'd give some of my input!
I have a 76 with a 4" hell for stout lift kit with rough country shocks and it came with some longer shackles.
I dont know how mechanical inclined you are or what you are looking to achieve with your lift (wheeling...
I tried a search for this but couldnt find much.
I have a 76 fj with a 4" lift and 33's.
I recently replaced my pinion bearings and adjusted my 3rd member. Reinstalled it and it works great except for when im in 4th gear running down the highway over say 40mph it starts to have a vibration...
I have searched the forum and have not been about to find the exact information and answers that I am needing.
I recently pulled my rear 3rd member out of my 76 fj40 because my pinion bearings were bad. I have replaced my bearings and I have reassembled the 3rd member.
The part that I am...
One more quick question. I have installed a 4" lift on this crusier. Could the lift have effected the drive line angles enough to make this bearing go out or is it probably just from old age?
I have a quick question about my 76 FJ40. It has started to get a bad vibration in the rear end when I get going over about 40mph. It starts to feel like it does when you have a bad U-joint but I have checked my U-joints and they seem fine. I am pretty sure that it is my pinion bearing that...
Sounds good to me!
Thanks alot guys for all your help.
I will get the engine grounded out and put in the new pinion bearing and she will be good as new!!!
I am in the process of fixing/replacing my voltage regulator.
And I will try this tomorrow and see what happens but judging from what ya'll have told me that should do the trick!
Where was the engine ground from the factory located?
Will it blow my alt. if i start it without the voltage...
Sounds to me like you guys hit the problem right on the head!
One last question. Is there a bolt or a place on the 2f engine that the stock ground should be mounted too?
Ok so just to clear it up is there more then one ground? Like I know I have one from my battery to my frame/chassis. But is there another one from my engine to my frame?
Well I have replaced the ground going from the battery to the frame. I cleaned the ground location very good too.
Am I doing something wrong or missing something?
Hey guys I haven't been on here in awhile but I have recently ran into another problem with my FJ40.
When I go to start her it will crank over very very slowly and very roughly if that's a word. I have tested the battery, starter, alt. and they all are in good shape.
So I got to messing with...
I have new battery wires on it but I will try cleaning the ground and ill get that battery tested this week at a few places around town.
It is still freakin rain here everyday so it has delayed my plans lol
Thanks for all the help so far
