The bolts could be used but the brackets have been treaded so why not use them. The 3/8" hardware is slightly smaller than the holes.

It does have a solenoid pack but their is no socket on the solenoid cover. It has an extended lead that has the socket at the end for the controller to plug into. Does this mean it is one of the earlier models? Is this not a well sought after model?

CruiserKing, it would be a good idea to see how many turns the gear box has lock to lock. You want about 4 1/4 turns. The quick turn boxes can be scary as hell. I'd stay completely away from anything like 2 1/2 turns, very dangerous. Good luck! :cheers:
