Actually, the mount has 2 joints, so it tucks right up under the mirror (like an idiot, I had it for a year before I realized this lol.) I know how I get obsessed with projects like this, so it's amusing to see it in 3rd person :)
I haven't looked at it, looks a little beat up but if you are going to ride it hard anyway, looks like a pretty sweet deal...

very funny guys :-P
It is parked under trees so there's always tons of leaves in there and swiping it is what causes the junk to come into the truck. I just don't want bugs going in there too is mostly my issue (still not used to texas bugs, that's a whole 'nother can of worms)
I was hoping...
Hopefully this isn't too non-tech for tech, but if the flashlight thing is ok, I'm posting this! :-)
I keep my truck outside and am amused/annoyed about how many leaves/sticks/junk gets stuck in the upper part inside the rear hatch. Sometimes that junk falls inside while the hatch is up...
txlx, I'm sure I could find someone somewhere that would object to your "reasonable listening volume" also - but thanks for the feedback :-)
mars, thx for the parts express idea - I like the digital amp boards they have, didn't realize their speakers were that good - looks like a good bang for...
Searching around, I didn't see anyone that is quite the cheapskate I am...
This is a project out of budget (pretty far down on the todo list really) - so it needs to be pretty barebones.
I was thinking to replace the factory head unit with a 1 space cheapo anything, as long as it has aux in...
Got it, I would go that way but don't want to add extra weight.
Anyone ever take the rear door off? It would be awesome if it could have removable pins put in so that it could be taken off easily like a heep door
Anyone know if there is some easy mod to mount the spare tire on the rear door like the prado? Hoping maybe there are some hidden bolts or mount that they just skinned over. I'm assuming the door is the same and/or strong enough.
I was hoping the OP was still around, I'd love to hear his final solution. Every once in a while I want to move something light but long and this would be perfect.
I wonder if my old hatch strut could be rigged in to hold the hatch down in a dampened (both directions) way...
Glad noone got hurt (and she sounds like a real bitch!)
What bumper to get? I wonder if you had one of those bars that go between a rock slider and armored bumper if that would have saved you completely...
That's interesting, the struts I got were

Is the sensor battery powered (one of the types mentioned here)?

I am (easily) confused - if it isn't battery powered, how is there any sensor info relayed - it's not like you have to connect...
Even better ($32.98 for two)
