Love trail 42. Used to run that trail all the time back in the late 90’s in my 66 bronco. It was an especially fun night run. Might have to make a special trip down from Moab to run it.
My 96 was doing the same thing. I removed the aftermarket car alarm that had many ties into the wiring harness including the neutral safety switch. That fixed my problem of the transmission not staying in 1st gear when descending and up shifting to 2nd, it also fixed my cruise control. I know it...
We crossed Kane creek on Wednesday on the way back from Lockhart and it was about 2 1/2 ft deep. I’m sure that it rises and falls depending on the heat and sun exposure in the lasals.
I don’t have a diesel cruiser but what I’ve noticed is that they smoke a lot at elevation. Usually the diesels are the tail gunners. Helps with mosquito abatement.
Last year we had some problems with gas containing ethanol at high elevations boiling in gas tanks. The gas stations in Ouray now have ethanol free gas. It’s a little more expensive but way safer. Ethanol gas can overwhelm the evap system at elevation.
Red creek is awesome. I would love to go but I live in Utah now. One of these days I want to land at the air strip there. What is the condition of the trail now, havent done that trail in 20 years.
There is always Ironton up red mountain pass at the entrance to Corck screw gulch. Free open camping.
