Reading the tranny threads it sounds like what's happening is the relative norm as there are no other symptoms than when changing from D/P to R so a Rodney Flush may be the way and grease U joints. While reading all this I've noticed changing the idle RPM helps and also tightening the shifter...

Same on my friends 62. Any further thoughts? Would a trans cooler help?

Sorry for thread resurrection but I have another question. On my friends FJ62, gearbox is an auto, when selecting reverse there is a positive kick through the whole truck and solid 'ping' like when a rally car selects first on the start line. What might this be and how is it cured?

Another quick question and ideal as a thread bump: how difficult is it to relocate the battery to the driver's side and would this provide some additional cold air into the engine bay to cool things? I have asked elsewhere on the forum about upgraded battery connectors and also noticed stainless...
