Crusty, You'll never get a decent pattern out of that used set......it looked like it had a deep ridge near the root of the ring gear....I saw weird hammer marks on the tooth contact surface. That thing was run "out of position" for way too long and the original pattern kinda went away. It...

OK....Crusty you had a severely Yucky pattern and you were making "micro" changes when you really needed to make BIG changes to affect pattern. You started with ..... o752 drive way deep coast extreme toe 0745 pretty much same 0725 pretty much same but improving 0715...

With zero shim it at least did what I expect it to do....it moved from the toe end deep in the root to the heel end to the extreme tip. There is the possibility you have a bad used ring gear but before we say that....this time put a shim between 0 and 70.... I think 035 will tell us more...

Hi Crusty- All of those paints are way too deep. Try it with ZERO shim. Then I'll tell you what I'm thinking...... Ken

Maybe a LS 347 ci crate engine with a kickass auto tranny. I'll get the 9.5" 4.10 ring/pinions cryo-treated and set them up just right. Food for thought. You wouldn't have to do the 8-5 job thing.....be your own boss....for the rest of your life.

Charlie- Did you ever think of doing some more of these kinds of builds from the powder coated frames up? You have the skill set to do it. You could sell a built FJ40(or 45) for about 100 grand. Plenty of wheelers out there with the money and would rather someone else put the blood...

Notes of the rear build. No locker and new Nitro 370 gears, new bearings and solid collar....and Marlin seal.

yippee! diff #2 done....except for a coat of black satin brake caliper high heat paint. Only the best.....Marlin 27 spline seal. Solid collar has been set and lots of anti-seize on the threads to minimize resistance. A nice, smooth 10 inch/pounds of pinion preload. DING! and this end...

Drive side NIce Coast ok comet tail is almost to center and says to leave it alone. yep Now to put the solid collar in and Marlin seal and button it up.
