    Oh yes I did! Harrop/Eaton E-Locker thread

So far, I have installed over 100 Harrops/Eatons for my customers and no negative feedback of any sort. But, then again, I don't think they ever competed in those fast paced Hammer type events. As simplistic as the design is with just 2 wires....+12v and a ground.....you'd think the shops...

    Oh yes I did! Harrop/Eaton E-Locker thread

Just reach under there and turn the front driveshaft 1/2 turn....then the tires are locked and spin in the same direction. 👍

FZJ80 making high pitch whine/vibes on freeway in axle or drivetrain help!?

Hi Fortuitous- The debri on the magnetic plug and the whine going away with the DS off sure sounds like the outer pinion bearing is starting to disintegrate. I know what you mean about 529 would have been the ticket.....Heck, now's the time to make that happen as I see a bearing rebuild in...

    Differential pattern rabbit hole.

Crusty, You'll never get a decent pattern out of that used set......it looked like it had a deep ridge near the root of the ring gear....I saw weird hammer marks on the tooth contact surface. That thing was run "out of position" for way too long and the original pattern kinda went away. It...

Same bearing separator I use....and I also tuned mine just for those same situations 👍 That ring and pinion is trash

    Differential pattern rabbit hole.

OK....Crusty you had a severely Yucky pattern and you were making "micro" changes when you really needed to make BIG changes to affect pattern. You started with ..... o752 drive way deep coast extreme toe 0745 pretty much same 0725 pretty much same but improving 0715...

    Differential pattern rabbit hole.

With zero shim it at least did what I expect it to do....it moved from the toe end deep in the root to the heel end to the extreme tip. There is the possibility you have a bad used ring gear but before we say that....this time put a shim between 0 and 70.... I think 035 will tell us more...

    Differential pattern rabbit hole.

Hi Crusty- All of those paints are way too deep. Try it with ZERO shim. Then I'll tell you what I'm thinking...... Ken

Maybe a LS 347 ci crate engine with a kickass auto tranny. I'll get the 9.5" 4.10 ring/pinions cryo-treated and set them up just right. Food for thought. You wouldn't have to do the 8-5 job thing.....be your own boss....for the rest of your life.

Charlie- Did you ever think of doing some more of these kinds of builds from the powder coated frames up? You have the skill set to do it. You could sell a built FJ40(or 45) for about 100 grand. Plenty of wheelers out there with the money and would rather someone else put the blood...

yippee! diff #2 done....except for a coat of black satin brake caliper high heat paint. Only the best.....Marlin 27 spline seal. Solid collar has been set and lots of anti-seize on the threads to minimize resistance. A nice, smooth 10 inch/pounds of pinion preload. DING! and this end...

This one is a slow responder......and that says good things about the way this gear was cut....really good things. This is with 055 and this is "exact depth" but Charlie will want max strength and quietness so a final tweak will happen.... either 057 or 058 will be the final value. Coast is...

039 plus 013 is 052. Micrometers to make sure I am getting exactly what I want. Drive side....this could be exact depth or possibly a touch shallow. Coast....this is saying a touch shallow. comet tail is not harshly in the root. It is saying to go a little thicker on the shim. I'll...

I'm looking more at the "depth" of the pattern....from face to flank. The toe to heel location is where it will end up and that can vary alot. It's usually not in the center. I can see that this means shallow here. Coast side verifies that it is shallow. Comet tails can offer a...

New koyo races tapped in. 360 degree support of course. Might as well start with the same 048 oem shim I try to duplicate the same final preload that I plan to at the end.....close enough....11 or 12 inch/pounds. This is with lots of gear oil on the bearings.

Hi Eradicator, Diff #2 (rear) coming along nicely. Man, these bearings had some deep wear marks. Toilet paper is very effective for removing oils from the races for close up photos. outer pinion bearing and race. See the 3 indentations from the rollers? easier to see in this...
