I'm struggling to get my 79 BJ43 from New Hampshire down to Florida. Last weekend I got as far as Baltimore before a loose alternator bracket caused a total electrical failure and some over heating issues to boot. Got that squared away but I wasn't completely convinced it would not happen again...
Hard Top 43 on the way
You guys are right - 43's had the rag -top and were marketed more toward farm use. I have 79 that came from Germany that will soon have a carefully crafted hard top. I'll post pictures when it's done.
Diesel Fan
If they offered the FJ with a diesel I would'nt be spending all this money fixing up a 79 BJ-43 ! Then again I really don't like that stupid rear door on the FJ. I think a two part door with a tailgate would have made much more sense

I believe that "Big Oil" has the EPA somewhat in their pocket. Thus preventing the more wide scale availability of diesel powered vehicles here in the U.S. that other countries are able to get. Just look at all the diesel powered vehicles that Toyota alone sells in...
Right now with the body completely off the frame I'm having my 79 BJ-43 done in Line-X on BOTH the underside exterior and the inside on the floor and wheel wells. I will post pics soon.
