Is any slop permitted in idler pully?

I'll guess the answer There was about 1/16" side to side wiggle of these idler pulleys after I removed the belts so I removed the pulleys for inspection. I found the closest fitting drill bit and wrapped around it aluminum foil to shim it tight into the center of the bearing. If found no...

Is any slop permitted in idler pully?

I couldn't figure out the search terms to try to find this answer. I have removed my belts from a 90 FJ62 with 220K miles and I notice that both idler pulleys can be wiggled from side to side about 1/16 of an inch. Should I replace these or is this normal?

    new attempt to replace belts

How do you change the belts on a 1990 FJ62? I worked for 2 hours this evening and got nowhere. I finally used 2 hose clamps to attach my ratchet handle to a 2' length of 1/2" gas pipe and tried to loosen the locking bolt on the alternator front to no avail. I think I did manage to ruin the...

RTH - loosening the alternator belts

Reconfirming belt tightening procedure OK, to reconfirm. I extracted that photo above and blew it up with my viewing program. to where my failing eyes can see it. Lets say for example that the arrow on the top is #1, and on the bottom from left to right the arrows are #2 - #5. Would I...

RTH - loosening the alternator belts

How do I tighten the belt This just started happening. When I gun the gas the belts squeal a little and for a second the alternator charging level dips to 0. I checked the belts and they are not very tight. I have the FSM but I don't see the photo in the FSM that I see in this attached small...

    Speedo ??? (not the swimsuit)

There was transmission oil going into the speedo as well and this caused the problem with the unit reading too high. I had the Zepco speedomoter shop in Richardson, TX clean and calibrate it. I then purchased and installed a new gear housing and gear shaft for the transmission. The gear...

Schematic for wiring harness?? - Ignition power now dead

You are right, it is a fusable link. With the darkness of last night when this happened, combined with the aw-s**t sinking of my stomach, I missed 1 of the wires when testing last night. Since there are 3 links all in one bundle and no telling how much Toyota would charge for the part, I am...

Schematic for wiring harness?? - Ignition power now dead

I found what I was looking for but not the exact location of it. It appears to be a fusable link "upstream" from the links next to the battery. http://fj62.com/info/schematic_starting/ Question, can one just use a normal fuse instead of a "fusable link". How about a circuit breaker...

Schematic for wiring harness?? - Ignition power now dead

'90 FJ62 ...... Does anyone have a schematic for the wiring harness? There is nothing showing wire routing in the FSM. The black wire (may have a yellow tracer) that feeds the ignition switch and most of the dash accessories, I attached an accessory load to this wire that drew too much...

    Speedo ??? (not the swimsuit)

I'll answer my own post. I wasn't that interested in removing the steering wheel as the FSM says so I did some poking around and found that by removing the 8 screws around the instrument cluster (some of them well hidden), I was able to wiggle the cluster right off. The speedo cable popped off...

Need color code & routing - wire to fuel pump

I am still unclear where the wire first gains accessibility, that is, where does it go once it leaves the gas tank. Does the wire come up through the floor or does it run underneath the car? Where can I reach the wire closest to the gas tank without dropping the gas tank? THANKS AGAIN!!!!!

Need color code & routing - wire to fuel pump

Sorry .... it is a 90 FJ62. The FSM shows the fuel pump in the tank. I looked everywhere underneath and I can't see any wires running off the top of the tank. (without lowering it of course) THANKS

90 FJ62(fuel injection) - Fails smog CO too high

This has not been my day/month/year. My FJ62 just failed the smog emissions test. The CO high speed test failed. Standard is 1.20 and it hit 1.54 on high speed. Least year the CO reading was 0.5. A giant gain over the past year. Any ideas? THere has been no check engine light and I...

Need color code & routing - wire to fuel pump

I cannot find wiring harness names, location and/or function in the FSM. I want to find the wire to the fuel pump. I found one that looks like it might be the one but I am not sure about it. The suspect wire appears to run from somewhere on top of the gas tank to just under the rear of behind...
