I need help identifying what this is.

Looks like a CB antenna mount, maybe? Definitely not stock.

Builds Salted Pork fj55 family wagon build

I've come to realize that some people are "car blind," i.e. they are unable to tell the difference between any cars. I am married to such a person. In fact just the other day she told me she'd seen a truck "exactly like yours" in an alley not far from my house. When I went to check it out, it...

    Rust Analysis?

You can replace the c-channels without lifting the body off the frame, but I'd bet that once they are out, it will become apparent that the rear frame rails are severely compromised as well. Doesn't seem worth the risk.

Thanks! It’s a $15 no-name unit from Princess Auto, aka Canada’s Harbor Freight.

    Intro - 1972 FJ40

(Also whenever I lose clutch I like to just start the truck in 1st rather than cramming it into gear). After a bit of practice you can even shift through the gears once you get the knack of matching engine speed to drive trail rpm

    Intro - 1972 FJ40

Welcome from a fellow ‘72 owner. Your disc brake front end may have come from a later 40. Sometime in the late 70s the gears went from 4.10 to 3.73 I believe. If you could find a used 4.10 third member, you could swap that in and be good to go? Did you change out the brake master cylinder as...

72 FJ40 Steering Column Removal Help Needed

On the 72 you can’t separate the steering box from the column: it has to come out as one piece. I found that I had to remove the fender to get the assembly out, though the FSM suggests removing the carb and oil cleaner. Pick your poison I guess!

    Builds Rescuing a Basket Case '72 FJ40

Well no one is buying this 40, so I’ll just keep working on it. I’ve started feeding it immunosuppressants so that it doesn’t reject the GM parts I’ve transplanted in over the past few days (you SBC swap guys know what I’m talking about 🤣) . In my defense, I did try installing Toyota seat belts...

1979 FJ40 Original Olive Build, 7 year Ownership, and prep for BaT

That’s gotta be one of the nicest 40s to hit the market in years. Good luck with the sale, I’m sure it’ll sell quickly and at a premium price.

    Builds Rescuing a Basket Case '72 FJ40

Finally made some progress on getting the bench seat fully mounted. I've had the driver's side sorted for a while, but thanks to the fuel tank, the passenger side has been more of a challenge. But I think I finally got something fabbed up that will do the trick. In the end it was a matter of...

    Early FJ40 seat belt anchors?

If the 68 is like my 72, there’s a nut that’s welded to a heavier-gauge reinforcing plate that is spot welded to the underside of the floor panel. When I repaired that section of my tub, I more or less reproduced the stock setup:

I don't have any pics for this little update, but last night I decided to double-check the clutch adjustment, etc., as shifting is not always the smoothest on this truck. I also remembered that I'd never properly bled the clutch line, so I decided to do that as well. After bleeding the line I...

    FJ62 crank but no start

Another possibility is a blockage in the fuel line between the pickup tube and fuel filter. You could try disconnecting the line at both ends and blowing compressed air through it. Have you replaced the fender-mounted fuel filter lately? Might also be worth checking.

    FJ62 crank but no start

The “sock” filter on the pump might be clogged up. Unfortunately on the 62 you’ll have to drop the tank to replace the pump. IMHO Toyota really dropped the ball when they moved the pump to the tank but didn’t provide for access in case of pump failure. Dropping the tank is a miserable job.
