83 FJ manual trans in my 88 FJ62

I was assuming the HP gain at the tires as I read the amount of power required to turn the A440F...

83 FJ manual trans in my 88 FJ62

Things may be starting to line up...or I may be rationalizing. Spend the bucks and convert to the H55...gain maybe 5mpg which equates to $ 1,000 per year in operating costs (fuel), 30% gain in HP +/-, and have a truck more fun to drive. That all makes sense. Tony, TC has 285k, so typical road...

83 FJ manual trans in my 88 FJ62

local 60 for sale is not an option...thing is thrashed. Plan B: any web links available for a H55/transfer case swap out package? I'm going to keep moving forward with the manual tranny option, I'd like to have everything here before the A440F says bye bye. Kicking myself for not visiting the...

83 FJ manual trans in my 88 FJ62

not to complicate things...but a hypothetical question. The manual trans seems like a great solution, however, if you guys had to choose between a FJ60 parts truck for the 4 speed, versus a complete FJ62 rolling chassis with a rebuit A440F, and cost was similar...what would you do. I'm going...

83 FJ manual trans in my 88 FJ62

ad for the '83 says it's a 4 speed tranny...ideally I'd want a 5 speed (H55). is the 4 speed still a good option when compared to a rebuild on my automatic tranny (gas mileage, ability to run at highway speeds, etc.)

83 FJ manual trans in my 88 FJ62

Just moved back to Florida from a 2 year stint in Colorado (and yes, I drove 'Ol Blue to the top of Pikes Peak). Starting to sense some tranny problems...285k on the tranny and transfer case. There's an '83 FJ for sale locally and I'm wondering if the manual tranny and transfer case are...

    60/ 62 Ownership Question

'88 FJ62 is the only family vehicle we have. 273,000 miles. I love it, my wife would prefer more bells and whistles. 11.3 mpg on the average. just drove 200 miles yesterday in and around the Rocky Mountains. Gutless motor, but it will get you where you want to go...yesterday we did miles of...

    Steering Box and Transfer Case

you guys are great...makes me want to start a frame-up restoration! I'll be looking into the input shaft issue and drag links...while I try to determine what makes the gauges flip out all the time...bad ground? All gauges go all over the place at random times. Doesn't worry me too much, but my...

    Steering Box and Transfer Case

New guy to the forum...quick history. Moved to Colorado last year and shipped out a 1988 FJ62 that was sitting in the back yard. Turned out to be a great decision as it is a great Rocky Mountain machine...once you learn to live with the gutless stock motor. 40K on a factory Toyota long block...
