Where the light wires enter the wheel well, in between the little reflector and the sheet metal cup for the taillight assembly:
Different view of the same:
Inside the wheel well, showing again where the wires come between the...
Took the passenger door of the Karma Cruiser apart to change the window runs and did the vent window weatherstrip while I was at it. Interestingly, I can't remember ever changing a vent window weatherstrip before. And after today, im not likely...
This is probably a big part of your issue... it sounds like you are using your timing light wrong.
Your timing light has do idea what the actual TDC of your engine is, it flashed based on the actual pulse from the distributor, not based on TDC...
Had a slow leak in my oil pan. Seemed like it was coming out of the drain plug so I changed the plug gasket/sill but it continued to leak. Looked all over the pan and didn't see anything leaking down the sides or front but kept cuddling up at the...
Every once in a blue moon I will see a rig where everything is installed and adjusted correctly and the only thing left to do is to shorten the pushrod.
When I say 'blue moon' this has only been the resolution twice in 30 years of wrenching on...
The 1974 FJ40 Amp Meter shunt would be dificult to replace as it's part of the meter itself, not external like the 1979 and up amp meters.
Great read: all things gauges
Here is why you can run a high amp replacement alternator and not burn up...
City racer is great, and the upgraded 50 amp is helpful if you have any modern electronics. Fuel injection, lights, compressor, stereo, that kinda thing.
Pretty simple deal to replace. Unplug the electrical connection. Loosen the tensioner...
When I first got into Landcruiser I had the purist mentality. And I’m not knocking it but I have grown to appreciate most everything.
So many people doing cool things that we get to see on this forum .
I agree. I have driven both stock FJ40s and highly modified restomods. Each has its advantages and disadvantages. In my opinion, the issue depends on whether you plan to use it as a daily driver or take it on long road trips. It can rough driving...
Bought a new toy, I mean tool. This ultrasonic cleaner is life changing. Ha!
The springs turned out great. Tons of small parts to do. Easy peasy now!
Added the new gear shift instructions plate, knob and retaining wire to the refreshed...
Finally got around to installing a new turn signal switch on the Karma Cruiser. I have a box of about 20 good used ones, but I opted to dig into the stash for an NOS one. :grinpimp:
While I was under the dash I noticed that the hazard flasher...
I finally got my FJ40 out on some actual off road routes. We camp on Priest Lake in Idaho and there is a nice network of forest service roads north of the lake. I spent a couple of days exploring. I was a stones throw from the Canadian border...
Carried yesterdays momentum into another 4+ install today. I ordered this a year ago when Dave was publicly discussing closing shop. Part of the deal with the full width one i recently picked up was i traded the OEM carrier off my ‘70, so with...
2 years ago, my transfer case indicator switch crumbled to pieces when I was ripping out my harness. I tried repairing mine and even bought a broken one off of someone to repair it, but working with epoxy ismt my forte.
@ToyotaMatt now has a...
Good question on the Aisins, can't say I've seen one.
One-owner '76 here - dealer put it on the heater duct, which I kind of like. Keeps the dash cleaner, and realistically it's by the 4x shift lever, which makes a bit more sense than by the...
Well, after only about 30 years I finally decided to rebuild those leaky knuckles. It wasn’t a difficult job but it was as messy as everybody said it would be. That YouTube video I watched only took 28 minutes but It took me about ten days to...
Did you readjust the timing after adjusting the points? Are your brakes actually dragging? The engine will seem sluggish if the timing is too retarded, advancing the timing the engine will run sportier. If the engine pings under load your...
From the adventures in NoobLand for other noobs. If you have a 3 speed from around 74 model, it does indeed take GL-4 SAE 80w-90 or 75W Gear Oil from what I have researched. Glad I'm replacing the clutch because this old fluid looked like mud...
I took the truck out for a trial drive today. I got it out on the interstate for a nice long run. I had done some basic maintenance- steering and brake adjustments, oil change, chassis lube, gear oil check, etc after having repaired my exhaust...
